Enigma... The last note in *The End Of The World* is an E..., same note as the first note in *Yesterday Once More* or as the first note in *(They Long To Be) Close To You*. I could've add the low E in *Solitaire*, the note that most people here thought was the lowest. ;D ;D ;D Enigma I love your choice of favorite arrangements. Especially "Goodbye And I Love You" and "Nowhere Man". I just love the early Carpenters sound on "Nowhere Man" and it's hard to believe Karen was only something like 17 when she sang that one. Most 17 year olds do not have that mature and ripe of a voice. Karen truly has a golden voice.

Absolutely Rick Karen may have even been sixteen when she did Nowhere Man but she was definately sixteen when she did the magic lamp singles and listen to how she sounds there certainly not sixteen. And also those songs are great I love them and I can really see why when Joe Osborne recorded her at that time he fell in love with that voice and had to get a major record company to hear it. Even if I was not already a fan of Karens I trhink I would still like these sweet and well done songs even back then. Young Karen wow I can't get enough of that. Its also interesting that you picked 2 songs that were so far apart as far as the evolution of Karens voice and Richard arrangements amazing what 6 or 7 years will do. Still all great stuff. I was also trying to think of some arrangements from the albums after Karen died but kind of got stumped and still am as great as his arrangements were on the later stuff it never quite matched what Richard did in the 70's maybe thats more preference or opinion than fact but I was not as moved by Richard arrangements in the 80's with the possible exception of MIA as the 70's stuff.

Hi Enigma, just to clarify - yes, I understand you were giving me a compliment, and I was attempting to thank you for it. Sometimes the written word doesn't quite do a thank you justice. So, thanks for the compliment. I did get that's what you were doing, and I appreciated it. Roland, I bet you're absolutely right - Richard didn't give Because We Are In Love much thought, because he didn't do it often. Although it seems like he has a catalogue sort of mind, and can remember most everything, I seldom hear him refer to that. Maybe bad carma, eh? I'm thinking All I Can Do is another great arrangement. I love the time signatures there, and the vocal harmonies. In my opinion, that arrangement is classic Brubeck. Cheers! Tim

Tim, I agree with you. Richard does have a catalog sort of mind especially when it comes to his own music. Not only that he wrote "Because We Are In Love" he just couldn't have forgotten the song. Richard I'm sure at the top of his head can name every note in every one of Carpenters songs.
Again Tim, I love the arrangement on "All I Can Do" what a great song with an interesting timing. I especially love Karen's drum work here. As I mentioned earlier probably my favorite song (as far as arrangement) on "offering" is "Now-A-Days Clancy Can't Even Sing".
Enigma I agree with you after 1977 Richard just did not seem to have the same verve in his arrangements. There were many great songs but if you do parallels it's just not the same.
Take "Those Good Old Dreams" next to "Top Of The World". I love "Good Old Dreams" but TOTW is far superior. Same with "Because We Are In Love" next to "We've Only Just Begun". "Because We Are..." is a great song but it's more on the mushy side and parts of Karen's vocal is strained while WOJB has a pulse to it and is one of Karen's finest strongest vocals.

:-[Chat room thing sounds fun.... Really interesting to hear about the DVD ....and the other info. about how Cynthia Gibb wore Karen's clothing for the movie and sounds like she really put all her efforts for the movie.....although it's very heartbreaking..and could be much improved looking back now at it....I'm glad it was made but to have the real people telling how it was made and any background info. would be a big plus..
