2007 Carpenters log?

Thanks, Beaner, for the link to pandora- perhaps we can all open that box. Since the most recent hears were after Jan. 1, I won't count them for the final 2007 log. At this point there is not a log planned for 2008- but if several people decide they want one and start a "2008 Carpenters log" thread at any point, I will be happy to keep track again. I will be posting the final 2007 totals this weekend- perhaps even today. (I admit I am looking forward to some more time to get into other venues here at the forum, as the log has, especially in recent weeks, taken most of my Carpenters time- but I loved doing it!)

WOW!! O.E., thank you so much for your continued efforts on this - all year long, taking our "hears" and tallying them up for us. I really, really find the results fascinating. No surprise to me that the top few included We've Only Just Begun, Superstar, Solitaire, Goodbye To Love but to know that This Masquerade was up there quite high, and the song we sort of started this whole idea based upon, "Merry Christmas Darling" came in at 30! I'm really surprised, and wouldn't have ever guessed this sort of count if I didn't see it for myself.

Merry Christmas, Darling came in 13th place (a tie, no less) ... with 30 'hears'.
Like you, I thought it would place much higher.

I just got a letter from Arbitron ratings for a radio listening survey. I'm going to write
99.5 FM The Jewel, they always play Carpenters. The Jewel home of the best music.

I'm pretty surprised that "Sleigh Ride" did as well as it did. My theory is that although "Merry Christmas Darling"is a classic of all-time, it's also one of the most overplayed songs during the Christmas season... and as we all know the last few Christmas' "Darling" received heavy rotation. My thought is that DJ's also felt the song was a tadbit overplayed and opted to play the other great Carpenters Christmas tunes... and any DJ who knows what their doing knows that Carpenters have way more than just one great Christmas tune... but more like 20 great Christmas tunes... there's a good amount to play during the season.

Getting back to "Sleigh Ride", I think it did as well as it did for several reasons. First it's a great tune. It's upbeat... and these days people are really looking for upbeat. And it's also a short in length... perfect for radio programmers who try to cram as much as they can into a two hour block.

"This Masquerade" doesn't surprise me much as it is one that's always been a big favorite... and I've heard it previously on several internet stations.

the one that does surprise is "Sweet Sweet Smile"... seems like this song has gained momentum in the past five years.

I think "Merry Christmas Darling" did quite respectable... the song was with in the 15 most played Carpenters tunes for the year... and that's excellent considering how many great songs Carpenters have.

Kathy... we decided not to keep a list for 2008.

It was really far too time consuming to listen to the radio all the time looking for Carpenters. I really went overtime with this in order to listen to at least four or five stations a day... just to be able to get a broader scope of all the Carpenters/Karen Carpenter songs being played.

God bless you! In fact when I posted that originally, I was going to mention how I understand we don't have a '08 log, because of the very things you have just stated....there are so very many parts of this forum, that indeed there's no need to explain why.
You continue to go way over and beyond around here with many projects,
with the help of so many others too and I just wanted to say thanks to O.E. and everybody for the time and efforts that went into completing the "o7 log project".
I hope this forum will always be around but only if it remains to be a fun and interesting thing. Never would we want it to become a burden to you.

The log was grreat and I enjoyed keeping it, though it did get very time consuming toward the end. The point was proven that there is a lot of Carpenters music available, especially on internet radio, and my guess is that if we were keeping an 08 log the results would be no less. Thanks to everyone who dilignetly reported for all of last year; the results paid off.

I do tune into internet radio... not enough though to keep an accurate log... but some of the most recent Carpenters/Karen Carpenter songs I've heard are... "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "Solitaire" and "Making Love In The Afternoon" (from Karen's solo album).
