I haven't had this for awhile, but "Now" is today's Song of the Day. It was featured in a dream last night...maybe because of the stormy weather that was passing through.
"There's no harm in thunder if you are there"

I have two songs of the day. Both are from Karen's wonderful solo album.
First is "Guess I Just Lost My Head". I love this smooth jazz type song. This song is perfect for Karen's voice and she sings is without flaw. I really like the playfulness in the lyric and overall sound.
Second is "Remember When Lovin' Took All Night". This is a great upbeat funfilled disco/rock tune. Karen does a great job on this one with a slightly authorative vocal performance. Liberty DeVitto (Billy Joel's drummer) does a great job on percussion. Probably the best part of the song is Rod Temperton's outstanding vocal arrangement. Temperton really put a lot of life into these songs with his jazz styled vocal arrangements.

So far my favorite album is probably "Made in America"; though there are only 10 selections, just about each one has become significant and has worked into my head. My favorite number- and among the top 3 or 4 of all Carpenters work- would be "When You've Got What It Takes." Very well done instrumentally and vocally (no surprise there) and with an optimistic tone. Somehow it takes me back to the days of first discovering who I was and what strengths I could best use. Every day brings potential for good, and inspiration for a positive outlook and determination comes from many sources, including the music of The Carpenters, including this song. I'm thankful it has touched my heart!

Last night I listened to the cd of Live in Japan '74 ...and so have had the song LEADER OF THE PACK on my mind all day! I also have the VHS of this which is waaay cool also... I especially love seeing the tape of L. of the Pack.. since the car crash effects are so great and the fun they all have...Karen adding a little drama holding her head against the microphone being heart-broken after "Johnny" has his infamous Crash!.. And then at the end of it the way Karen moves across the stage...singing.."leader of the pack, but now he's gone...etc. Such a natural...

I know this has been my Song of the Day before but I love "Boat To Sail". I love it because it's different for Carpenters and it has such a smooth feel to it. I also love the vocal effects on it.

I think Jim would've appreciated the humor behind "Still Crazy After All These Years". He never lost his sense of humor.

After a cloudy and brief rain yesterday today in Southern California we are having a beautiful sunny day. Therfore I have a few songs of the day.
"Boat To Sail" - This song always brings me a sunny feeling with it's echoing vibes and layered vocals. I especially like the lyric; "I'm a California label from the top of my head".
"Top Of The World" - The best song to play on a sunny day.
"Happy" - Good, upbeat song with Tony Peluso's excellent guitar work.

"B'wana She No Home". This is one of my all-time favorite Carpenters songs. Musically it's outstanding. I really love the guitar and percussion parts. Karen does a great job singing this song and adding a bit of attitude to her performance. What I love most about this song is that it's out of the ordinary for the Carpenters. I just love it when Carpenters recorded edgier type out of the ordinary tunes - it adds to their mystique.

:'(Thinking of songs in memory of Jim is a very amazing ideal. Even though I didn't know him, I think he would like the song "Don't Be Afraid"... because he seems like he was loved and believed in love.. I don't think he would argue over such an upbeat happy song with the message of we all "were put on this earth" to love and make the world a better place.

My song of the day is "Baby It's you"...I always loved this song from the first time I heard it on Cl. to You album. I love everything about it. The way Karen starts out slow and low...and then the chorus is bold... "Many many nights go by, I sit alone at home I cry over you...what can I do/..." And then when she sings out on "they say you never ever been true...ohh..." I also love the sax that plays and the background vocals.
