I have also been following the short story, movie, awards and tremendous audience response associated with "Brokeback Mountain." "Desperado" is a fitting depiction of the stoic lead character Ennis. With the clear but bone-chilling weather, the lyrics seem even more appropriate ("... don't your feet get cold in the wintertime, sky won't snow and the sun won't shine ... it may be raining, but there's a rainbow above you ..."). The chameleon weather truly evokes the music of the C's! I love "Desperado". Lately this song has made it into my all-time top ten favorite Carpenters songs. It's one of my favorites from "Horizon" (which I am currently enjoying the remastered edition of the CD). I really liked Prisoner Walking's description of the song in another post. He said, "sounds rich, intimate, and aching, yet within the same song young, feminine, edgy". I just love those Carpenters songs that have that slight bit of edginess to them. Today this is my song of the day.
I also love "Top Of The World". A beautifully good feeling song.

How fun! While driving home just now I did something I NEVER do - listening to the local FM station that plays "oldies", I requested anything Carpenters for the "drive-at-5" all request show. And the DJ said "what a GREAT request." So today, my song is the one he ended up playing, Goodbye To Love. Such a great song with it's gorgeous vocals by Karen, and those rich chromatic harmonies at the end, not to mention Tony "the bone" Peluso's excellent guitar solo. Tim It's been a very long time since I requested a song for the radio...but it really is a thrill when your song is played....especially one by the C's.. thanks for sharing that....that's a great thing too they have going... requests for the drive home. I might change the words some to myself if that happened and say..."well, Goodbye to work.....you tried to do me in, but you didn't...oh no you didn't... " (good thing I don't write songs..ha..)

My Song of the day...which stood out while playing C's... "I Believe You"...I just love the part that goes: "I made up my mind for a liftetime..." ...I also thought of how the song is similar to "Close to You"...in that ...at one point at the end of the chorus, makes u think the song's over....there's the pause...then drums and chorus again with Cl. to You...i think all goes quiet for a bit and then chorus with piano again.

I know you guys most likely won't agree with me but I feel the winner of this years Best Movie Academy Award will go to "Good Night, and Good Luck". I don't think "Crash" has a chance at winning. Both "Brokeback Mountain" and "Capote" have a chance - but I still feel "Good Night..." will get the statue. Just my thoughts. Will be interesting to see what happens. I'll have to check out that Prisoner Walking ... As usual, I don't go see many movies, but love watching the Oscars...I usually know some about what a movie's about...I think Good Night...you refer to is about Edward R. Murrah w/ George Clooney...I bet it is a good one...true stories are the "in" thing it seems and I love those kind mostly. I think Brokeback Mtn. will win a lot..but I hope the others will too.

My song of the day today is Now.....Now, when it rains, I don't feel cold..... We had some terribly severe weather throughout the Southwest Missouri area in the past two days, and we dodged the bullet here at my house. Springfield actually got a lot of damage, some of which was less than 1/2 mile away from us. A tornado touched down just PAST our home last night, causing a severe amount of damage. In fact, there were two or more of them that landed in the metro Springfield area. I thought of this lovely song as we sat on the basement floor, weathering the storm. It was a nice thought amongst the anxiety. Tim

Right now I am listening to the delicious MR GUDER(the song is delicious...NOT mr guder)...anyways, a great song. I love Karen's lead...very sassy. What is neat about it is if you take a listen, you can hear the different melody lines that Richard and Karen use...it's easy to just listen to the basic/main melody...but if you listen carefully you can hear other ones sung by Karen. For example...at 45 seconds...the word "FIVE"...very textured...at at 58 seconds you hear NOW THAT YOU'RE WEARING A COAT and TIE...you hear several vocal lines...at 2:09 you hear Karen say SAID...with slight emphasis on the D in said...At 2:18...the sublime vocal harmonies come in...very difficult to sing...and we know that when she sung this song LIVE she handled it effortlessly, as well as flawlessly drumming with passion simultaneously...Wonderful song...tells a nice story!!
My thoughts, Cam

My song of the day is "Jamabalaya". An excellent upbeat good time song. The Carpenters were outstanding with this type song. As great as they were with dark somber songs they were equally great with upbeat pop tunes.
My other song of the day is also from "Now And Then", which is "I Can't Make Music". This is one of Karen's very best vocal performances. I just like the overall mood of the song.

???One thing after another happens in the world of troubles for sure....but the C's really can just take your thoughts away and into their world. I listened to their Love Songs and really it has been a few days since I had the time to listen to them. Sometimes I think it's almost worth not listening to them for a while and then for me I just crave 'em! My song of the day, is "Where do i go from here" For one thing, the song mentions leaves falling and being swept away by wind. Even though it's not autumn, it surely has been windy around here and listening to that song, really just fit how I felt about the day and the future. It's not a very happy song, but hmmm where do i go from here... (who knows, I might just fly out to sunny Cal. and sit on the beach there.... ha...

That is a good song, my favorite too. "Lying on a bed of leaves, looking through the trees ..."
