Today's song of the day that I choose is "Crescent Noon". "Green September burn to October brown.........." as it is September 1st already. I can't believe how this time has flown. Great choice Beaner! CN is a rather unique song and one I will always love. My SOTD is Two Sides this is another song that there is alot going on in. I love the layered guitars here, Richard could have stuck with one or two guitars but instead delivered more to make the song fuller. Since Richard records all instrument parts seperately to minimise leakage I can really appreciate the effort he put into arranging this song especially considering his health at the time. With Karens great vocal contribution this song is a Gem that I will always love. I especially love the steel guitar in addition to the vocals in this song. True tested and among my all time favorite Carpeners songs. I love this song!!

What a good story Dave. Thanks for sharing. That's neat that somebody paid money to hear the Carpenters and also help victims of the hurricane. That also shows us that if radio were to play what people really want to hear (instead of them playing what they want us to listen to) we'd be hearing a whole lot more of the Carpenters - without a doubt.

And regarding Katrina, My Carpenter song of the Day is Goodbye to Love..not so much for the entire sentiment of the song, but of just a couple of lines.. "..What lies in the future is a mystery to us all - No one can predict the wheel of fortune as it falls..There may come a time when I will see that I've been wrong, but for now, this is my song.." It just resonates with me, and has all day. Ciao my friends, Tim

My song for today is "Sing" of all songs this one got stuck in my mind. It really is a fine song and well produced. But what I like most about the song besides Karen's voice is the lyric. In it's simplicity the song is powerful with a powerful message. simple yet powerful.

My song of the day is "All I Can Do". I just love this early Carpenters song. Musically speaking this is a solid tune. It has an offbeat and complex rhythm and timing about it. And I love the fact that Karen does another fantastic drum solo. This one has been on my mind all day today. Just love it.

Yeah me too, and also "California Dreamin" , because considering how young Karen was she could belt out that song. Thank goodness we have that recording.

"Please Mr. Postman". This is a song I listen to on a regular basis. Something about this song just keeps me going. I love the upbeat rhythm and the fact that Karen plays drums on this song.

My SOTD is going to be Sailing On The Tide I just love the flow of this song and how Karen sings this song so smoothly and and with such a rythm and flow. Easily a conenter for my favorite of VOTH and upbeat. infectuous and great song that has been in my head quite alot as of late and always lifts my spirits and gives me a peaceful easy feeling.

My song of the day is two songs.
The first being "I Got Rhtyhm". Once again karen and Richard display their fine jazz chops with outstanding drum and keyboard work. This song is really produced and arranged well. It's probably my favorite from "As Time Goes By".
The second is "Dancing In The Street" which follows "I Got Rhythm" on "As Time Goes By". "Dancing..." is just a great fun upbeat number. And the lyric, "they're danin' in Chicago, down in New Orleans..." really caught me today. Made me think of the survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

My SOTD is Little Girl Blue. This is a classic song that only the best singers attempt. Karen's version is so natural and the arrangement by Peter Knight is lush and sweeping. He seemed to know how to complement Karen's vocal style so that voice and music are seamless. I know Richard admired him and trusted him to arrange the Christmas Portrait album. He said it should have been Karen's solo Christmas album.
Anyway, I like classics and wish Karen had recorded more of them. Little Girl Blue is also so allegorical of Karen's life that it is almost as if it was written just for her.
Just my thoughts, Rob

My song of the day is "Karen/Ella Medley". I just love this excellent medley of songs beginning with "This Masquerade". I just love Karen's reading of "My Funny Valentine".
I believe someone on the forum recently mentioned wanting to hear full versions of all the songs on this medley. Wow that would be a dream come true. But I don't think any full versions off these songs were recorded. I think only the portions for the medley were done.

Song of the Day- I am playing the "Gold" CD and just came across, "Merry Christmas, Darling." It is still in the upper 90's in Texas and yet this song makes me feel Christmas. That is why I will make this my SOTD!

My song of the day is Karen's somewhat fun and lighthearted "Guess I Just Lost My Head". This along with "Making Love In The Afternoon" are my favorites from the solo album.
