I'm gonna go with one I'll be no one's picked yet: "Karen's Theme". I have been listening to Lifescape's "Above The Clouds", which is an instrumental album, and "Karen's Theme" would fit into it very nicely. The song titles are in a different order, but when I make a special disc here's the order they will be in: "Above The Clouds" (title track) "Sailboat In The Sky" "Falling" "Yearning" "Pilgrim's Journey" "The Winding Path" "A Chance Encounter" "Spirit Child" "Never Letting Go" "Lover's Tears" "Karen's Theme" "Flower Rain" "Secret Garden" "On The Wings Of An Angel" "A New Day" Karen's Theme is a beautiful song and by the titles of these others you have Dave, I think it would fit in perfectly. ::)And I LOVED your Quantum Leap episode!! How grand!

My song of the day, in my head would be SUPERSTAR also. Next to Rainy Days, S.Star is one of the very first songs I recall hearing over the radio maybe when I was about 12. I took a walk today, and I had that in my head which brought me a very nice feeling and cheered me up. I associate it with my first big crush on a guy 5 yrs. older than me...but even though he didn't share the way I felt, it was nice to think of him.

My song of the day is "Goodbye To Love" from one of the Carpenters' very best albums "A Song For You".
I chose "Goodbye To Love" today because musically it is one of the Carpenters most outstanding songs. Tony Peluso's guitar solo itself brings the song to a higher level. And Karen sings this song like she's really living it. Outstanding.

My Song Of The Day today is You're The One. This song just always gives me the proverbial chill factor when I listen to it. I do associate it with the Karen Carpenter STory, as that is the first time I remember hearing it. So, I find it a sad song, with positive lyrics. Karen sings it with trepidation - as if she has found the 'one' but doesn't really belive it in her heart and soul for a second. A beautiful song, that is so incredibly crafted by Karen's silky, basement voice.

My song of the day is "Baby It's You". I've had the "Close To You" album since 1972 and I really never paid attention to "Baby It's You" much until about 1997 ot 98. That's when I noticed this is really an excellent vocal performance by Karen.
Last night I was listening to the "Your Navy Presents" recording. On it is a live in the radio studio recording of "Baby It's You" on this recording you can hear the beauty in Karen's voice. She sang it wonderfully. She just had this natural ability - even live without any studio tricks her voice is almost near perfect.

My SOTD should be no surprise and its Superstar. I think this is Karens finest hour vocally and I especially like the way Karen holds the notes in this song to slow the tempo of the song down. For me whatever Richard did arrangement wise for this song is overpowered by Karens vocal performance and it is arranged to demonstrate what no doubt Richard knew to showcase Karens awsome vocal take on the song, This song erased all doubt in my mind that Karen was the best vocalist of all time no one could have sang this song like Karen did and nobody will ever do it better than Karen did, nobody. This will always be top 2 or my favorite Carpenters song as I have said before pure pop perfection! BTW Rick great choice of SOTD unlike you BIY blew me away from the first time I heard it. Karens vocal floors me on this song from arrangement to vocal I love that song! I even like it better than the Beatles version and thats saying something me being a Beatlemaniac and all.

Today my song of the day is "You" off the "A Kind Of Hush" album. It's a brilliant song, and I think it would have been a huge hit in 1976 it it would have been released as a single. Karen's voice sounds angelic and it sounds like she's singing directly to me.

My song of the day is from Karen's solo "If I Had You". This is one outstanding song. The musical arrangement is outstanding. The vocal arrangement is even more exciting with the multitracked vocal at the end. This song is one of my ultimate favorites.

Let's get this going again. My song of the day is The Last One Singing The Blues from Karen's solo album. It's the only song from the album which was not fully completed so there's parts where Karen speaks directions to the musicians. It's another jazz type song that Karen handles with aplumb.

I've been listening to Karen's solo lately again so my song of the day is the fabulous "If We Try". This song has a nice smooth R&B jazz fusion sound to it with a strong pop sensibility. An excellent song from an album of all strong entries.

My SOTD is I Just Fall In Love Again this is a beautiful song the only flaw I notice is the strings are a little too loud or in the forground and they tend to overdominate the song but other than that I quite like this song.

My SOTD is My Body Keeps Changing My Mind from Karen's solo album. As Richard says from the sublime to the disco! This is a very spirited song with a disco beat. Karen's energy is quite infectious on this selection. It's always appealed to me.

OK, my SOTD is from the Made in America album. In tribute to Karen's try at marriage I pick Because We Are In Love (The Wedding Song). I would have loved to have heard Karen sing this song at her wedding. Written by Richard and John (Bettis) it is unlike anything they ever created - totally fitting and most assuredly autobiographicable.
I wonder what Karen thought of this song?

My song of the day is "Boat To Sail". Enigma mentioned it in the "Summer Songs" thread and I just had to go and play it and now it's been in my mind all day.
'We are riding in a boat to sail'.

???I guess cuz I hadn't heard it in a while, I listened to "One Love" from the C's "tan album". I also mentioned that pic. #12 of Karen reminded me of that one too. The tan album was about the 2nd or 3rd Cd of our Carps. i bought a few yrs. ago, and I hadn't heard One Love til then. It's kind of a sad but hopeful song which fits in so well with the way Karen sings with a type of yearning. I love the choral part ...."we are the choices we are given" seems to make sense.

Kathy you are right "One Love" is an excellent song. Perfect for Karen's voice. You are close on the lyric with the exception of one word. It is actually, "few are the choices we are given." My song of the day is "Good Friends Are for Keeps". In the wake of the tragedy brought on by Hurricane Katrina we must all remember to be a friend to these people and help in whichever way we can. There are several organizations to donate money for disaster relief. Or even simply praying for the survivors and their families helps. Help survivors of Hurricane Katrina CLICK HERE
