Yes Dave no offense but this would make a good thread of its own its an interesting topic and I do want to hear more it just is not a SOTD thread topic thats all again no offense intended.
My SOTD is I Wont Last A Day Without You sung in the Rainy Days vain I love Karens vocals on this song and the lyrics are so beautiful Paul Williams does a great job as usual with this one and he seems like such a nice guy who really loves Karen I can somewhat relate. This is another song that would have made a great single I love it!!

My SOTD is I Just Fall In Love Again. Karen sings like an angel on this one and Richard's arrangement is of a building crescendo of strings, harps and choral voices as Karen takes us to heaven and back. Wooowwww!!!

Gee, I thought that yinz guys were interested...OK, I won't post 'em anymore. Hi Dave, we are interested - I always enjoy what you have to say. but this is a thread of your Carpenters Song of the Day. Your thoughts on the Discovery Crew are more suited for the Different Light board. Sorry Dave if there was any misunderstanding.Find Different Light Board click hereMy SOTD is "Iced Tea". I just love this short but unconventional jazz instrumental. I really feel that if the 1967 Richard Carpenter Trio album were released it would have been received quite well by music critics.

Yes Dave you certainly brought this topic back. My SOTD is I Can't Make Music from the Now and Then Album. The pairing of Karen's voice with essentially just a piano is a great way to convey the feeling of despair one often feels at the end of a love relationship. Too bad the title is able to be used by critics to lambast the duo. I wish Richard would include this one in future complilations. Karen was at the top of her game with this simple yet powerful song.

Moving your adventures/thoughts to different light will keep us informed, Dave - and we do love to hear your stories. So do, keep us posted and informed - as we are interested-and intrigued,as well. I, too, will go with "I Can't Make Music" for my SOTD, but for very different reasons than you, Rob. I like your reasoning better - but today, I just feel like "I Can't Make Music." It's been one of "those" days. No, I'm not looking for sympathy here - just mentioning that after coming back from vacation (where we had a wonderful visit with our son, however awful the desert was, and it WAS awful, in my opinion, as I'm used to the beautiful midwest with trees and grass and all the things the desert does not have to share with those who live there).....I came back to a relatively big problem at work that has been quite complicated, and worrisome to me, personally, as it had to do with my own work, which I don't like to have degraded, if you will. We've all been there - this has happened before to me as well, it's not anything new. Nevertheless, I feel like I just "can't make music" and that I apparently didn't make any good rhyme in the work I produced prior to leaving for AZ, cause now I have to change it all and in a bit of a hurry. "No, I can't do anything to take me away, this time." So, all that to say what a wonderful song I Can't Make Music truly is - and Karen sings it superbly. I have always liked this tune, and it has been significant from time to time, just like today. Best to everyone!!! Tim

Yes, Dave please please keep us informed. As Tim put it these thoughts will fit just fine in Different Light.
Thank you again Dave for rekindling this thread. It's always been an interesting one.
Anyway as for C's song to take into orbit I would have to take "We've Only Just Begun" and "Top Of The World" with me. Both songs have a sort of otherwordly feel to them.
Comments on "I Can't Make Music". I just love this song it's definitely one of Karen's most intense and dark readings. What a great song!
p.s. I liked Dave's thought about which Carpenters song would I take in orbit so much, that I started a sepearate thread on this idea. CLICK HERE to see new thread

Great idea for the new thread Rick and Dave. I'm looking forward to hearing from everybody on this one.
As far as my song of the day, I'm going with Karen's solo album and If I Had You. This song has such a great song with a great sax solo. It's probably one of Karen's strongest songs on her album.

My SOTD is The End Of The World from the Now and Then album. This song was a big hit for country singer Skeeter Davis in the early 60's. Karen's version is distinctively her own. I never tire of hearing her sing it.

My SOTD today comes from the Carpenters performance on the Tonight Show - it's actually an ABBA song called "Thank You For The Music." Until I watched this clip from the tape Roland made for me, I'd never heard them do it. What a great little number, and Karen sings it so sweetly. The performance of course is live, and KC is so animated, as she always was "live."
Things are better at work, so just as I felt "I Can't Make Music" on a rather gloomy looking day, today I want to "Thank You For The Music" as things have lightened up for me, and looking brighter.
There's always a song of the day that seems to fit the mood. Isn't that just the way it should be? Some cool stuff.
And, thanks, too, for all the kind asides I've recieved! You all are just THE BEST. Ciao! Tim

I guess my song of the day....was meant to be even though, it's a bluesy day song, but Rainy Days and Mon. came across throughout the grocery store this morning....and since I seldom hear Karen over the radio..(hey and it WAS a rainy day) it gave me a very nice feeling. And I really wanted to sing it out as I went down the aisle...gee...."my girl"...as my sis might say...

My song of the day is Help! from the Close To You album. I love the way that Karen sings it. It reminds me of the joy that The Carpenters brought to the world with their music. A close second is " I Won't Last A Day Without You" I never get tired of that song. By the way I am thinking of seeing Paul Williams in concert on 10/15/05 at Pepperdine University in Malibu and I hope that he sings this song!

My Song of the Day today is Guess I Just Lost My Head. I love the way KC sings this lively tune. I love the harmonies, and the wonderful pop beat. It's just great and fun.

Tim, I just love "Guess I Just Lost My Head". It's one of my three favorites from the solo album. Karen sings this one 100% in her vocal range and with a playful smoothness that is completely irresistible. Excellent song. So great that this is my song of the day also.

My SOTD is also going to be from the KC solo sessions but an unreleased track and it called Its Really You I love the piano introduction on this song especially and the pianowork in general as well as the song as a whole. This says alot about Karens song selection when such good songs as this were left off her solo record so much good material so little space even the rejects are winners in my books. This one is a favorite of mine.

Considering the length of this thread I know that I have chosen this song as my song of the day before but it really is deserving.
My SOTD is "Road Ode". When I was a kid I bought the "A Song For You" album and this was truly an amazing album (still is). I would listen to it from beginning to end. I really loved every song (even Richard's "Piano Picker"). But once I got to the end with "Road Ode" I would just melt. The song is such a strong and soulful song. This is easily one of Karen's best vocal performances. And the lyrics are great. I could just imagine Karen and Richard on the road as she sang these words.
I've always felt "Road Ode" was the strongest album track of the entire Carpenters catalog. It doesn't have that commercial sense to be a single - but it's just one excellent song!

My SOTD is going to be from the Oldies Medley and its a Richard vocal. I chose The Night has 1000 eyes for reasons that are not too surprising to those who know me here. Though Richard vocal on this song is good what sells it for me is Karens harmonies when Richard gets to the chorus and Karen adds the long aaaaah going high then lower in the notes just chills me and her harmonising with Richard is among her best harmony parts for me. I just love Karens harmonies in this song they are sooo cool!
