;D
I was in the car today and had the first CD of the Gold album playing. I changed it out with disc 2 and was listening without paying attention. (I was talking with my 6 year old) A little while later, "I just fall in love again" was playing and I immediately woke up and paid attention. I turned it up and then repeated it 2 more times. I have always loved this song. It demands to be heard. Karen starts out soft and dreamy and builds through the guitar solo to a full blown power ballad with Karen soaring above the melody. This is my SOTD!

I agree Moe. "I Just Fall In Love Again" is one of those songs which is a must listen.
My song of the day is also from "Passage". It's "B'wana She No Home". I just love the way Karen sings this one. She sings in tones of authority. She keeps her silky smooth approach but at the same time she's the boss on this one. Then there's the outstanding jam style music. This is one of the Carpenters' most creative songs ever.

Yesterday's SOTD wound up being "Sing". One of the thirty-something guys at work started singing it, and it stuck! So, I brought the "Gold" album in today, but before playing it I told everyone to brace themselves for a Carpenters song they've never heard before...the wedding song! Our ages range from 22 to 51, but the young bucks were in this morning. This crowd listens to Howard Stern, but at the first opening violin notes at my end of the shop, they turned their radio off, and wandered to my end. They listened, enraptured by the angelic voice, and the full symphonic sweeps, clearly not heard on any Green Day album. When it was over, they were amazed! "Disney-esque" was mentioned by someone else. Karen in an animated video, like "Beauty and the Beast" or "Snow White" was mentioned. Fields of beautiful flowers, like "Sound of Music". Animals and trees singing the choral lines. But no one made fun of it. I just smiled, the smile of someone who has enlightened a student. Now, they "see with a Carpenters fan's vision, knows what a Carpenters fan knows". I bet I can get them all to sign the online petition. The best comment came from the shop foreman: "Things should have turned out better for her." Don't we wish...? ???Great Dave!....Somehow I'm a little surprised that your co-workers ...pleasantly surprised...that they liked Sing so well....perhaps because I'm assuming most of them are guys...it is a very simple and upbeat song...often during work though, people listen to music...and sounds like you really made their day, as well as your own, go better... :-[and I surely do hope they will sign for the H. of Fame..

Hey Beth, your moment could be a "Carpenters moment"! What a great coincidence for you. This question I'm going to ask could be a thread of its own: how many of you have woken up with a C's song stuck in your head, and what was it? Also, in answer to your question....I don't know if I woke up with a certain song in my head....but I did have a very sweet dream (I don't recall the particulars) of the C's....I know the night before though, I had been listening to their Reflections-Sw. Sw. Smile album... and just had such a warm happy feeling and pictured R. and K. so very clearly... So, as far as my Song of the day for today goes... I felt very much in tune with "what I've got they used to call the blues"..and I wasn't that upset...I was just like my GraCious....so Rainy Days and Mon. fit my mood... and even if I could have started singing one of their happier songs, I just felt like singing that one as I took a nice walk around the block...

Wow! Enigma you are so right about "Those Good Old Dreams" it really does have a lot going on. Richard certainly did a fine job with this arrangement. I'd say it's my favorite song from "Made In America" along with "Strength Of A Woman". MY SOTD is "I Can't Make Music". I love this dark and moody song. I especially love Karen's vocal on this one.

I had FOR ALL WE KNOW stuck in my head today...it's one of my all-time favorites ...It's a real Classic ...perfect...the way the song starts out to me is unmistakable what the song is... Karen's as always sings it like no other and it brings out the way she can hit those lower notes...

Sorry Richard but my song of the day is "My Body Keeps Changing My Mind". This is a great dance song and a total departure for Karen on her solo album. It really gets me up!

Don't be sorry Rob if Richard don't like it thats his problem as he has said eveyones entitled to their opinion on the solo record. I will also choose MBKCIM for my song of the day. This song is disco and I do not like disco but its more in tune with Donna Summer type disco which I tend not to mind. This song has been in my head for weeks now and is even playing in my head as I type this. Its not my favorite track off the album but it is infectuous and a real nice listen also it is well done so it is my SOTD.

My Body Keeps..." is not favorite tune either from the solo album. As a matter of fact I generally skip over it. But lately I've been playing it and really enjoying the song.
Therefore Rob and Enigma I have to go along with both of you in choosing "My Body Keeps Changing My Mind" as my song of the day.

I like this new picture of Karen in the background on the site so it made me think of the song on Richard's album for her "When Time Was All We Had".

Thanks for the information on the Discovery crew Dave.
My SONG OF THE DAY comes from the fabulous "A Song for You" album. It's the song "Bless The Beasts And Children". This is such a beautifully magnificent song from the pinnacle of the Carpenters' popularity in the U.S. This is the song that made me love the Carpenters when I heard it in late 1971/early 1972.

My SOTD would be "Happy" as we're here in AZ (NOT my favorite place, so far - VERY HOT and not so pretty), but we're with our son, and happy to be. Happy IS the way I'm feelin', and I know it's cause of being with you (him). It's nice to know your children are doing well on their own! Tim

Tim Hi Tim, glad to hear you are so "Happy" in Arizona (regardless of the blistering humid heat).
My song of the day is "(I'm Caught Between) Goodbye And I Love You". This is such a beautiful song. I love the acoustic guitars and the downbeat lyric.

My song of the day is Love Me For What I Am because Karen, although being insecure in her personal life sounds so in control and confident in this song. The contrast I just spoke about always surprises me. Anyway, it's a beautiful song from their glorious Horizon album and I love it!
