My SOTD is continuing with my AKOH theme since I am listening to this record more now. The song is I Have You. The most attractive part of this song is the double tracking Karen does with her vocals. We all know the famous Carpenter overdubs but they rarely use double tracking in their songs (this is the only one I can think of that uses this) and I always loved it when the Beatles, most often John Lennon, used this technique so when I heard Karen double tracking herself well I just loved it as well. I also like the smooth silky flawless and effortless reading and vocal that Karen does on this song it reminds me of her vocal on Desperado on Horizon near perdfection and better than her usual great vocals. To end a rather long story I love this song off AKOH and it is my SOTD.

??# A big welcome back to Roland!!! I love Two Sides, as well. One of my very favorites. It's so beautifully sung by Karen. I'm especially fond of the lovely bridge.

Karen...afraid of her wedding? I don't think so. She WANTED to be married, and she was IN LOVE with Tom. This is what she dreamed of, and NO ONE forced her. I mean, the wedding was to be in 6 months, and then it got changed to less than 3 months.

On Karen's wedding I think Dave is referring to the lyric "mom I'm afraid". I also think Dave is referring to the implications that her marriage to Tom Burris was not a strong marriage. Neither of them were able to put the time into building a strong relationship. After all Karen was going to be signing divorce papers the day she died. Back to the subject at hand... Today I've had "Please Mr. Postman" on my mind. I just love this song with Tony Peluso's electric guitar and Karen's drumwork. what a great upbeat fun song. I just love it. I wish Carpenters would have done more songs like this.

Well, in regards to the lyric...Mom I'm afraid...that is just a "character" that John created...I mean, probably when a songwriter is writing a song, he has a character in his mind, with their trait(not songwriter's trait always)...but possibly bits and pieces thrown in...so the lyric MOM I'M AFRAID is not necessarily Karen. Even though John wrote it specifically for Karen, they have to create a theme in this song...which doesn't necessarily mirror Karen's emotions...And I don't think Karen was afraid.
As it turns out the marriage didn't work out...but I BELIEVE that her ANOREXIA had a big, big, big part in the breakup. Unless you have been anorexic, or lived with an anorexic, it's hard to understand the damage that can be done on all sides...and Karen was no exeption...
Because We Are In Love is a beaut of a song...very rangy...3 octaves from high to low and Karen handles it with such dignity.

OK I agree with Rick that there was not a strong relationship to bigin with the courtship was short and Karen was in too much of a hurry to get married. It just seemed to set the tone for a doomed marriage from day one with or without the ED which garanteed its failure. They may have loved each other but I don't feel Karen and Tom were in love they did not have a strong foundation to build the marriage on. Just my thoughts,
My SOTD is from AKOH and is called One More Time. I like this song for the same reasons that were stated previously. Its one of the stronger songs on the record.

Because We Are In Love (The Wedding Song)What a great song.
Based on last year's('til Christmas) *My Top 10* thread... I think that I might be the only one who has that beautiful song on his Top 5 list, Top 10 list or even Top 20 list..., it still is #5 for me and I'm proud of it. My SOTD is I Can't Make Music for the longest time this song went unnoticed when I played Now and Then but after shelving the record for a time as I often do I started listening to Now and Then and really noticing this little gem. Since then I just can't get enough of the wonderful song it a little different that your typical Carpenters song but I love it!
