Today March 26th the day before Easter 2005 my song of the day is "Boat To Sail". I love this song. It's slightly off the dege. Somewhat experimental with the reverb on some of the harmony vocal.

??! ??! ??! Song of the day is: "Dancing In The Street". This is such a fun upbeat song. I always enjoy seeing karen perform this song on the Tv special "Space Encounters". She is so cute as she dances her way through the song.

For me, it is SWEET SWEET SMILE...I just love this song. And i love the video of them on Star Parade in 1978. Karen looks so beautiful and so fun. I love her facial expressions in the video. She was really a gorgeous woman, although her soul was just as gorgeous. My thoughts, Cam

My SOTD is Crystal Lulaby. I consider this the Carpenter equivalent to Golden Slumbers by the Beatles just beautiful songs I love to listen to. Karen had many types of vocals the fun vocals the dark haunting emotional vocals and the sweet vocals I consider this vocal to be one of Karens sweet vocals it just lifts my spirits everytime I hear it.

It makes a great companion to the Beatles' "Golden Slumbers".

??# ??# ??# My song of the day is "Strength Of A Woman". Somehow this song got into my head and never left me. so I played it a few times. I really love this song. Karen did a magnificent job with the vocal. Funny thing about this song is I never did care for it. Maybe it's the lyrics. Maybe I felt it was too girlish or something dumb like that. But recently when giving the song another listen I came to finally appreciate this song. Mainly for it's smooth groove R&B sort of feel and Karen's outstanding and intricate vocal performance.

Rick, as you know, I mentioned to you in another thread - well, I referred to SOAW as a "country" styled song. I've gone back and listened to it many times since then and wondered to myself why, exactly, I always had that opinion of the tune. It certainly isn't the beat - just a pop beat - and there aren't any instruments specific to a country song to make me think that - so it must be the inflection and Karen's pronunciation of the word Wo-Man - the way Karen sings this part of the song, and that it's accentuated by the music. It's all I can think of, but I've always had it in the back of my mind it was a country tune. Odd. It is a WONDERFUL song, and a great song of the day. Strength of a woman tells a sad story, really - but the music is beautiful, and of course, KC sings it beautifully. I especially love the part where she comes back in on the chorus to sing "the strength of this wo-man" - the second time. The harmony there is just beautiful. ^^ ^^ ??#

Although it's more aligned to a smooth R&B pop style the song could easily be done by any number of popular country female vocalists out there on today's scene. My choice Martina McBride - as you know I like her quite a bit. SOAW would be easy to transform into a modern country pop tune. I do see you vision on this one definitely.

My SOTD is off Karens solo record and its All Because of You. I like the somewhat country flavor of this song it reminds me of something Shania Twain would sing the vocal style is very simular. I love the intimate nature of this song the air was really let out of this one and the result is great. I also like the acustic guitar and vocal nothing else I have always like acustic numbers from alot of different artists and this one is no exception. Definately NOT a disco song it demonstrates the diversity on this record I love it!
As for SOAW I like it alot though there are others on this record I like more this one is still a great song. I consider it a pop song rather than a country or R&B flavored song style wise. Lyrically it could be seen as from the country style of songwriting and it does kind of remind me of something a country artist would do.
BTW Rick Martina McBride is a great vocalist I saw a special with her singing with Pat Benatar and when she belted out Pats songs it just blew me away how good and strong Martina's voice really is. In fact the next day I got her greatest hits package and I love it.

??! ??! ??! My song of the day is "B'wana She No Home". I just love this song for many many reason. It is truly an outstanding song for the Carpenters. When I first heard it I was totally surprised. This was the last thing I expected to hear from the Carpenters. I fell in love with it instantly. For quite a few years maybe from 1977 up until about 1995 I considered "Passage" to be my favorite Carpenters album. Though as time has gone on the sheer quality and experimentation of "Horizon" has captured my imagination and is now my favorite album.

I guess I am playing follow the leader somewhat but my SOTD is Keep My Lovelight burning. For me I like the power chords on the guitar something you would never hear on a Carpenters record. I also like a good and unusual baseline in a song and this one is no exception has kind of a funky sounding bass. This is such a good song and it is unfinished makes me want a finished version all the more. The song represents everything that KC was its edgy, its very different from any Carpenters songs, and its more adult and adventurous than anything Karen did before. I also love the use of Karens "high" voice on this one sorry Richard I think Karen sings great in her high voice and this song is proof of that as far as I am concerned. I like it I really like it!

I love the funky and infectious bass line. The upbeat rhythm is fun, fun, fun. I agree Karen sounds great in her higher voice.

$% $% $% My SOTD comes from the album "As Time Goes By" = it's the driving rendition of California Dreamin'. I loved the song by the Mamas and The Papas, but this version by Carpenters is just super - acentuated in all the right places, and Karen's vocal is so fun. She sounds like she means it, doesn't she? I suppose I am California Dreamin' anyway, as I'm getting ready to head out to San Francisco for a week. I'm taking my laptop, though, so can check in from time-to-time.

???My Song of the Day...though I'm sure it's been mentioned a lot of times on this thread so far...is We've Only Just Begun. It still makes me think of a wedding song...and it fits so well that way. But I just love it no matter how you look at it. The harmony, lyrics, the music just puts so many different pictures in my mind. That very first line starting out.."we've only j. begun to live...and then those few "tinkling"(ok. you know what I mean!) of piano keys is like the big booster sending a rocket into space... it launches out with the harmony... "we fly"... it's a message of great hope for a great future...whatever life brings....

??! ??! ??! Song of the day for me is from Karen's unreleased solo sessions. These days I'm listening to Karen's unreleased songs more than anything else. My song is "Midnight". I just love the lyric on "Midnight" and the mellow jazz fusioned R&B instrumentation and Karen's smoky jazz influenced vocal is outstanding. I love this song and really feel if it were released today and properly promoted it could possibly be a hit.

q$ My song of the day today is "I Can't Make Music." Having just gone through the ordeal of losing a loved one, (my sister-in-law, who I played music with for 25 years, and was much more like a sister to me), well..I just feel comforted to know that this lyric tells the story for me. I can't make music - I can't make rhyme - NO, I can't do anything to take me away, this time..
I'll be in San Francisco next week, but will have my laptop, and hopefully can get back to the forum and make some posts.
