Don't know if this song from Horizon has been raised as a topic, but here goes.
Yes, I love this song, too.
What a great idea for a song.

At one point in time this was my favorite song from "Horizon", but than again every song is so great that I think each song has had it's point where it was my favorite from "Horizon". currently my favorite is "Only Yesterday" and for a long time it was "Happy". But "goodbye And I Love You" is such a great song. I always liked the lyrics and the slight laidback country music feel.

The C's have made it very difficult if not impossible for me to name my favorite C's song. It does change from time to time and I think there is always at least one co-holder to the title and several waiting in the wings.

:(I love all those songs on Horizon, but Caught betw. goodby ... is great because it seems like it would be a difficult song to sing, it has many ups and downs to it..but Karen comes through just perfectly and again it fits in with other songs sung by her..songs of the uncertainty of love and relationships.

I love every song from Horizon also. Goodbye And I Love You is a favorite because it has a simple sort of urgency. The lyrics really hit home. What a great song. I still love it after all these years.

Like Rick my favorate Carpenters song changes week to week.
The songs from Horizon come up frequently because as far as I am concerned as a Carpenters record this one stands head and shoulders above all other non greatest hits packages (well...above anyway).
One song however that consistantly stays on top of my favorites list is Superstar simply because Karen so nailed this song to perfection vocally and I cosider this song one of the best ballad\pop songs of all time a true pop masterpiece. Every time I play it I realise why I fell in love with Karens voice in the first place. I love this song today as much as the first time I heard it and never get sick of this song no matter how often I play it.

Goodbye And I Love You is such a very good song. I really like the guitar and the slight country music sound to it. This could do well on today's country music charts.

Yes -Great song from Horizon. On the recent California / TOTW 2 visit -this was a frequently played song John Bettis in one interview stated this was an all time favourite composition with Richard.Karen's vocal is precise -yet heartbreaking -again When Carpenters 1975 UK & European tours were sadly cancelled due to Karen's exhaustion / ill-health , A&M UK / Europe were considering another Horizon single and either I'm Caught Between or Desperado were favourite choices ....sadly this release was also cancelled Either of above classics should have been issued and become major chart / radio hits in late 1975.... Peter ....might have beens

Hi All! I know I am junping in late on this poll but my favorite song from Horizon was Love Me For What I Am. It seems to get me right in the heart every time I hear it. I must agree with Rick, Horizon was ther best project! I love every song on it!!! I know it is difficult for all of us to nail down an all time favorite, they made everything great. JIM

Never too late to jump in!
Did I read that Richard wasn't happy with Horizon when it came out?
If so, has his opinion changed over the years (since quite a few of us think it is their best work as an album.)

In one of the televison documentaries and I think in the Ray coleman book Richard states that he feels the album drags. I totally disagree with him. I think the album is moody and dark and soulful. My favorite album.

"Goodbye and I love you" is one great song, but I don't think would have been a hit. It is an awesome album cut and stands the test of time, but for some reason, it didn't and doesn't feel like it would have been a commercial record.
If you try to sing along with this song, you'll soon learn how talented Karen was. The range, the long time between breaths, the control... absolutely awesome. This has a great country feel to it! If Richard ever needs another idea for another release, putting out a country collection isn't a bad idea! This song could anchor the CD!

I forgot to say that Horizon is very special to me because it was my 1st record that I ever had of the Carpenters and it was a Christmas gift, I was about 11 or 12 years old but music wise I love all their stuff, they are the greatest

I love the part of the song where the background vocals add a little to the 'story' of the song. It's where Karen sings:
Give me a reason (one way) Why should I stay here (some way) I've tried so hard just to keep love alive.
It's like a subliminal message, but very cool. I wish they had done more of that on other songs.
