Keep on trying.

Definitely not Donny and Marie.
Here are the clues again. Make sure to read every word in the clues - especially for the artist. It's a two word clue - siblings is not the only clue to the artist.
The Carpenters/Karen/Richard connection is a musical one - it does not have to do with TV - and it's also not an obvious one - as this is a 4-Star difficulty level - you really have to know the inside and outs of Carpenters/Karen/Richard music to get this one.
Artist: Siblings Band-Aid
Song: This could be played as an answer song to Tina Turner's "Better Be Good To Me"

Band Aid 20: Do They Know It's Christmas?
Siblings Daniel and Natasha Bedingfield sung on this new version.
That information would apply to the 1st clue, but not the second clue (Better Be Good To Me).

Song: Could be played as the answer song to Tina Turner's "Better Be Good To Me".
There are two connections to Carpenters/Karen/Richard with this group and song.

was this artist as big as the Carpenters? Did the song hit Top 40? The ONLY one I could find was Richard and Linda Thompson but I'm NOT sure if they were siblings? Dr Johnny P LoveTrain

Okay, since we haven't been able to crack this case I am going to give you guys another clue about the artist - but even with this clue you're still going to have to do your own investigative research to figure it out.
The siblings in question performed on a popular mid 70's jazz album titled "Mellow Madness" just before they made it big with their own group.
Here are the original clues again:
Artist: Siblings Band-Aid
Song: Could be played as the answer song to Tina Turner's "Better Be Good To Me".

Song: I'll Be Good To You Artists: The Brothers Johnson (George Johnson/Louis Johnson)
This still doesn't cover the clues, yet...band-aid...crack this case...own investigative research
Quincy Jones produced... a 1970s Brothers Johnson tune ("I'll Be Good To You") with an obnoxiously modern arrangement. As if that wasn't enough, he brings in top-flight jazz stars Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald...
Ella could be a link

You are absolutely correct Wisejester - the artist is Brothers Johnson and the song is "I'll Be Good To You". The connection, though, is not Ella Fitzgerald. The connection has to do with the Brothers Johnson themselves and the song "I'll Be Good To You". And remember there are actually two connections here - could be even more - but there are two very direct connections.
The clue BAND-AID. Band-aid is a trademark name for the company Johnson and Johnson.
Crack the case and Inversitgative research were not clues - they were just my own colorful wording.
Good work... so what are the connections...

Rod Temperton is incorrect. I used Temperton as the subject of a recent Twisted Logic - I wouldn't use the same subject so soon.
Temperton did get involved with Brothers Johnson - but not until 1980. "I'll Be Good To You" was released in 1976 and one of the connections does have to do with one it's writers.

Louis Johnson of Brothers Johnson, who co-wrote "I'll Be Good to You," played bass for Karen's solo album and A&M boss Herb Alpert's album "Rise."
