A neighbor of mine has the letters KRC in her liscense plate. Eventhough it's surrounded by other numbers I still think of Karen Richard Carpenter when I see that KRC.

I was out driving today and enjoying the early fall weather (translation-exploring my 'new' turf) when I passed SPECTRUM Carpets. K & R immediately popped into my mind. There IS always something there to remind me ;-)!!

How funny, Tim, that your first thought was to post this on the forum.
Here in California we often hear Carpenters in the malls, restaurants, even Home Depot - Carpenters are quite popular in So Cal. But usually it's one of the classic tunes like "We've Only Just Begun", "For All We Know", "Goodbye To Love" or "I Won't Last A Day Without You" - those seem to be the most commonly heard songs via piped in music. On occassion you'll hear "Only Yesterday" - but I've never heard "Sweet Sweet Smile" in piped in music - anyway here in So Cal - that is.

How 'bout THIS one - been driving past it for years, and just now recognized the connection - KAREN'S CARPETS . I certainly won't drive past it again without thinking of Karen Carpenter. Tim

About twice a week I drive by the Carpenters local Union. They use a logo similar to the famous Carpenters logo.

There is 'always something here to remind me' ... driving on Indiana state road to bring kiddies home for the holidays, we passed "Karen's Kids" . It is obviously a preschool/kindergarten type of place, so naturally I thought of KC and how she wanted kids of her own someday.

I usually listen to Carpenters about 2-3 hours per week (mostly while walking or exercising), so it's probably not strange that they would work their way into the subconscious. Over the past two and a half years I have had approximately three Carpenters dreams, the most vivid being last night. As is often the case with dreams, there was an odd mix of the past and the present. In this dream I had the opportunity to work at a Carpenters concert- my role (which I am quite certain doesn't exist in reality) was to stand by the side of the drum set and be ready to catch it in case it tipped over. Before the concert started I noticed that the crowd was rather sparse but did include the current coach of the Chicago Bears football team. (By the way, though I live in Chicago I am not a fan of the team.) The opening of the concert was a conversation among Richard and his children. When the music started Karen was playing drums and the first song was "Ticket To Ride." But before the song progressed far, Karen took ill and the concert had to be cancelled. Then I woke up and was glad it was a dream. I am not a person who looks for or attributes meanings to dreams, but if I can apply a lesson from this one, it is to energetically take advantage of the opportunities given each day for work and service of any and all sorts, because no one knows how long the opportunity will last.

Very interesting O.E.
About ten years ago an acquaintance (who happened to be a Pastor with a degree in psychology) told me that dreams are movies of the day you just experienced. Everything you see, speak, watch, hear, think, fear, cherish tha tday ends up in your dreams. It ends up in fragment which compiled together make sequences. Sometimes these sequences make sense - other times they're a bit jumbled. many times all the aspects group together and you have odd people together in your dreams. Such as the coach of the Chicago Bears at a Carpenters concert.
My guess is that day you listened to Carpenters - probably thought sad thoughts of Karen. Somewhere in that day you must have heard the coaches name or saw him on the news or possibly a friend was talking about him or the Bears.
Definitely we learn from these slices of subconscious renderings of our life experiences. We all learn in different ways and interpret things differently. It's how we use what we've learned that makes it either beneficial or hindering.
Regardless O.E. I found this thought to be so very interesting that I'm compelled to begin a new thread to discuss how many times per week/day/month do we listen to Carpenters. Though primarily if we've had any dreams with C's in them. I've had a few - two I remember quite well - and others which are somewhat obscured.
Look for the thread called "Dreams and how often"
Thanks O.E. for the great comments.

Rick, I have an idea, thanks to you!
"About twice a week I drive by the Carpenters local Union. They use a logo similar to the famous Carpenters logo."
Remember the picture of the "Carpenter's Cross Church" sign I sent you about a year or so ago? Maybe you can start a photo section of this topic. I passed the local union's regional council's digs today, and I'll have to take a photo. Sounds like a good reason to take a bike ride. Near Greensburg in Westmoreland County is Carpenterville, and I have a photo of a billlboard that mentions "Top Of The World". What do you think?...

HEY EVERYBODY...HOPE YOUR NEW YR. IS GOING OK SO FAR ... ;D Hi there Dave...it's always interesting the things you know about space, NASA...etc...your views of things. ???AND there's some Terrific readings here...about what reminds us of K. and R. ..and even dreams... hmmmmWELL perhaps some of you have watched the new show on CBS "Shark"...with James Woods being a lawyer.. ???When i watched it last night, during the investigation of a case, (The show takes place in Los.Angeles,) anyway, about 3 or 4 times, the town of DOWNEY was mentioned as a place where suspects wer. ???I kept hoping they would go there and show some of Downey, but as far as I know it wasn't shown. Anyway, that was sort of an unexpected surprise... Another thought the fabric softener DOWNEY....hey it has something in common with the C's... both (ok, in a very loose sort of way) are soft...the C's have that in most cases, the soft sound...and yes, probably R. and K. were good smelling, clean ...etc

One of the more time consuming but pleasant aspects of my work is coordinating our recycling program. Quite often I handle some of the materials myself and today, in with the mixed paper I saw a 2007 calendar. I thought to myself, I could use another calendar, and decided to salvage it, perhaps. I saw that it was produced by a company called "SweeXXXXXer" which, I guess, manufactures guitars. Then I noticed that most of the dates had birthday listings for noted musicians (many of whom I had never heard of.) My determination was that if Karen Carpenter's birthday was included, I would keep the calendar. It now hangs prominently in my inventory/storage area, and I am further encouraged by the recognition Karen is receiving as a very noted contributor to music. (I admit I didn't check for Richard's birthday yet, but I'm almost sure it will be there.)

Great find O.E.
I'd be curious to know if Richard's birthday does appear on the calendar.

Yes, that's quite an interesting find, O.E. Once you've had the opportunity to check it out, in full - please let us know what all you found. I'm of the mind that Karen's name will only be heightened as time goes on - her name, and her legacy, both of an incomparable vocalist, and the fact that she was an incredible (female) percussionist. Yes, Richard's birthday does appear- it is October 15. There must be close to 500 birthdays total listed- all the greats from Johahn Bach to Johnny Cash. It will be fun to look at as the year goes along. My birthdate is the same as Cher, and Joe Cocker. Maybe I'll get a card this year. Ha! By the way, this past weekend "WINTER NAMM" was held in Anaheim, California. Any idea what that is?
