I went and voted for "Calling Occupants..." and gave it five points. It's rated pretty low right now, but we can raise that rating. Here's a link to the page you vote on: www.space.com/entertainment/spacebox/ The song listings are at the bottom of the page, and you may have to reload the spacebox until the Carpenters listing shows up. Only vote once. If you try voting more than once you may accidentally vote for another song that you don't want to vote for.

!@ @@ I just visited space.com and once again read that negative review they have posted for "Calling Occupants..." so I wrote them an email about to them and sent them a review of the song. Following is the review:
CALLING OCCUPANTS OF INTERPLANETARY CRAFT: Originally written and recorded in 1976 by the Canadian group alt-rock Klaatu. Klaatu came to fame when rumors led to speculation that they were the Beatles performing under an assumed name. The Carpenters' recording was an enormous undertaking with 160 people involved. The famed Peter Knight orchestrated and arranged this galactic event. Peter Knight is also known for orchestrating the Moody Blues' "Days Of The Future Passed" album. Klaatu relied heavily on electronic sound effects and synthesizers to create their illusion of outer space. Where as The Carpenters used a full orchestra with swirling violins, haunting pipe organ, Tony Peluso's out of this world guitar solos, Richard Carpenter's spacey electronic piano and a fabulous marching band. Rounding it all out is Karen's fantastic voice. The vocalist of countless pop-ballads proves she's more than just your average pop singer with this tune. "Calling Occupants..." was released as a single on September 9, 1977 and reached UK # 9 and U.S. # 32. The song also became a top 10 hit in Southern California where it enjoyed airplay on FM album rock radio stations which was unheard of for the Carpenters until then.

Great job Rick. I'm so glad you e-mailed them with that information. Their review of "Calling Occupants" is so nasty. There's really no reason for it. Anyway, your comments were right on as usual.

!@ I don't care for the negative review either. OCCUPANTS is a great song. The review on Space.com is biased and doesn't have many facts about the song. I like Rick's reveiw much better.
