In some of the reading here...it was mentioned that Andy Williams recorded "A Song for You"...well, I like to look up sound clips and see what it sounds like to hear others sing songs that The Carps. did. Andy Williams and his brothers sang very well together in their hey day...and then of course Andy struck out and was and is still such a good singer. I found that on one of his albums, he did record "For All We Know", A Song For You, and Rainy Days and Mon. And in his own way, smooth and mellow, yet, great volume and reaching those high notes, he sung so many popular songs. I wonder if he was on any of the C's tv specials or maybe they were on his show at one time. But Carps just put those songs on the map for sure...mainly cuz of Karen.

I'm not that big a follower of Andy Williams, but he is a good singer. He is like Sinatra, always sang what was popular but in his own style. I loved Frank and the Rat Pack, I was into them more. But I guess Andy showed his love for Karen and Richard in his own way. I haven't heard his versions of Carp songs yet.
That reminds me of a Simpsons episode where Bart and his friends went driving cross-country and Nelson, the bully kid threatened to beat the guys up if Bart didn't take him to an Andy Williams concert!

Kathy...
Andy Williams didn't appear in a Carpenters TV special..., but, the Carpenters appeared on The Andy Williams Show in late 1970.
Karen, Richard and Andy performed a nice medley of Ticket To Ride/I'll Never Fall In Love Again. The Carpenters also performed(sync.) For All We Know. [glow=red,2,300][/glow][shadow=red,left,300] [/shadow][shadow=red,left,300]Roland C.[/shadow][shadow=red,left,300] [/shadow]

???Yeah, I like Sinatra and all those crazy rat pack guys too Mariah. And that's funny about the Simpsons episode. Sometimes, I watch them...they're always fun to watch.
Roland, thanks for the info....no doubt I watched that particular show, since Andy was my mom's very favorite. I don't recall seeing it since that was long time ago. I'd love to see it.

One another episode of the Simpsons, they played the song 'Close To You' at Apu's wedding (the Kwicky Mart guy) and it was sung in Hindu (the native language of Apu, Homer's friend.)

I don't recall seeing the Andy Williams show with Karen and Richard. I do remember many of his shows. He was a wonderful singer and had some big hits. I can easily see him singing some of the Carpenters hits. Back in the late 60's and early to mid 70's we had some great artists on T.V. I remember seeing Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitztgerald, Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, and many many other great artists. I'm 49 and feel very blessed to have been old enough to have seen some of these giants toward the end of their long and lustrous careers.

???Mariah...that Simpsons episode sounds SO CooL! I should get back to watching them again...! It just goes to show that you never know when the C's or their music will pop up...they were so Enormously popular and loved! And yes, Rob, I agree there really were some fantastic mega-talented people during those yrs. They are surely made an impact in the music and entertainment world. I liked Victor Borge, the piano player...who was so funny and I know he was on one of the C's specials. I'm glad I was brought up with parents who were tolerant of all kinds of music and all kinds of tv shows...and now some of those old shows seem just too dumb for me to watch... but the people in them had to be very talented in order to pull the stunts they did. I still like Dick V. d**e, Mary T. Moore, sometimes I Love Lucy... but Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, ...well....

Victor Borge was one of the absolute greatest entertainers. I have watched him since I was a young girl and continue to watch him on pbs and the videos I own of him even though he has passed on. He is surely missed!!!

Hi,
I have just found this thread. I think Andy Williams has a great voice. It is good that he recorded songs that our Carpenters also recorded. I cannot find samples of his versions. But I know that Karen's versions must be the best.

Great find, Ming. I have had the pleasure of hearing Andy in person, since his theatre is right next to us in Branson. In one of his older stage shows, he sang We've Only Just Begun, and had some nice things to say about The Carpenters, remembering that he'd had them as guests on one of his shows. Also in Branson are The Osmonds. Of course, Karen dated one of the Osmonds for a time. They, too, have performed Carpenters music on stage, as has John Davidson (naturally, since he was a repeated guest on Carpenters TV specials). John had a show in Branson for a time, as well. Andy Williams can still sing, and just recently had Petula Clarke, a well known Karen friend and Carpenters fan, do the show with him. I don't know if they performed any Carpenters music in that show, but when Andy sang Begun, he did it nicely. Tim

Wow...Tim....that's great to know you perform in in Branson..or etc...and u saw Andy and Osmonds. Boy, Andy and his blue eyes singing Moon River...really could cause a melt-down....I saw Osmonds when Donny was about 16 and all into his purple stuff... Always loved them on Andy's tv shows and then on their own and Marie too.

I agree with you Tim... Andy Williams blended extremely well with Karen and Richard. I really enjoyed the medley of "Ticket To Ride" and "I'll Never Fall In Love Again". The two songs worked well together - and as always Karen gave a stellar performance.
