According to what people have said about that group, they say that Klaatu sounds like The Beatles. Is that true? To me, "Interplanetary Craft" does not sound like a Beatles tune at all, but it's still a good song.

Klaatu's sound is somewhat Beatlesque. Though upon first listen it is quite obvious that they are indeed not the Beatles. Some of the songs have a 1967-69 Beatles sound to them, but none of Klaatu's vocalists sound enough like any of the Beatles vocals to really think they're the Beatles. Klaatu on it's own is a pretty good group. They capitalized on the use of synthesizer (which was becoming very popular in the 70's, due to artists like Pink Floyd).

Rick Yes I never understood why it was thought that Calling Occupants by Klaatu was the Beatles reunited. I guess because the Beatles were so phenomenally popular people wanted the to reunite so badly that anything remotely sounding like the Beatles would be thought to be an attempt at a reunion or a new release. Yes to me it was clear this was not a reunion by the Beatles the vocals were not even close in my book. Klaatu did have good music in it own right and I liked their Calling Occupants even better than the Carpenters version but I was never a great fan of theirs.

I heard that many other bands at that time were said to be the Beatles in disguise. Badfinger, (whose surviving member I met here in Laughlin) was one of them. My father remembers listening to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and his brothers told him that it was the Beatles reunited and my dad fell for it! Klaatu, whom I haven't heard before, I couldn't really judge. I haven't heard about them until I read the Ray Coleman book.
