Those medley's are great. I enjoy listening to the 1980 Medley "We've Only Just Begun",from the Essential Collection . I think i'm going to buy that "As Time Goes By" "As Time Goes By" is a great collection of songs from different time periods and sources. Some of the songs are from their various television specials, some are pre-carpenters demos and others are previously unreleased album outakes.
My song of the day is "I Got Rhythm" from "As Time Goes By". This song was featured in their 1980 special "Music, Music, Music". I also love "Dancing In The Street" from their 1978 special "Space Encounters".

My Carpenters song of the day is Jambalaya". This song has a great upbeat feel to it and I really like the great guitar work by the one and only Tony Peluso. I also like the drumwork.

I've probably chosen this one several times already, but I love this song for it's sheer upbeat pleasure - my Carpenters song of the day is "Dancing In The Street" - one of my favorite numbers from "As Time Goes By".

My song of today is "Two Lives" It's curious 'cause it's on "Voice Of The Heart" album which is not one of my favorites and, in spite of this is a great song, I didn't listened for a long time and today I woke up with this melody in my mind.

I notice that many of the recent Songs of the Day have been from "As Time Goes By' and I look forward to hearing that. The past 2 days I have been listening to disc 3 (1974-78) of the From the Top set and it includes a brief (about 60 second) number called "Good Friends are For Keeps"- sort of an upbeat jazz style, and I really like it! A message of reaching out with mutual encouragement from and to people who have, through various contexts, become true and good friends. Even if a long period of time passes without much contact, they will still be there. And I couldn't help but think of the support the people on this site can give each other with the understanding and experieinces we have. I think this song will be in my mind for a long time. O.E.

You are so right, O.E. Interestingly, From The Top was the first real compilation set I got of Carpenters. I was thrilled with such things as Good Friends are for Keeps, the Suntory Pop commercials, and My Body Keeps Changin My Mind.....to mention but a few. I loved these songs as it was the first time I'd heard them, and to get something new from Carpenters was just, well...it was a treasure. I'm like Rick in that I make myself compilation "tapes" from CDs to listen to in the car (I don't have a CD player in my car, so I have to use tapes) and many times KC Musician and I make these compilation tapes called "messages" and send them to each other - a message tape completly compiled ONLY of selected songs - it's always fun to try and figure out the message.....I've started MANY of these tapes with Good Friends are for Keeps....I just love the sentiment in the song. So, since you've brought it up, allow me to use it as my SOTD, as well. Good friends ARE forever......good friends are for keeps. Best to all, Tim

I have to go along with O.E. and Tim. "Good Friends Are For Keeps" is such a great little song. This one should be mentioned in the topic about songs we wish were longer. I've played this song for friends on their birthday and other special occasions.
I love the "From The Top" compilation - which is now called "The Essential Collection 1965-1997" - I own both. I generally listen to disc one and disc three.
Anyway my song of the day is also "Good Friends Are For Keeps"

I just bought the Carpenters Gold dvd today and my favorite song is "Rainy Days and Mondays". Karen voice is so deep, rich, bold, and the best tone.

I really like the song "Kiss Me the Way You Did Last Night" and "Slow Dance" from the Lovelines cd. On the song Slow Dance, the ending part when she sings "someone like youuuu whoa babyyaayyy" is total sweetness, do you think it is possible that background picture would match this song?

I keep 'hearing' the Grease medley. It helps that 'visuals' also pop into mind. What a hoot! It sure looks like they had fun with it.

Karen is absolutely hilarious. And musically the band and the vocals were outstanding in this performance. I saw them perform this live the one time I saw them in 1977.

I listened to the Karen/Ella Medley on the way to work this morning...what a fantastic piece of musical history that is....on these jazzy tunes Karen's voice seemed to regain some of that edgy spark I felt it lost towards the end of her career. They clearly had a blast performing together...

"Crescent Noon" is my song of the day. It's such a dark and chilling beautiful song. It speaks of the beginning and ending of all things wondrous. I really like what the song has to say. I think of new life when I hear this song. It has a dark sound but with an inspiring message conveyed quite poetically.

With "Passage" in mind - I've listened to the entire album all the way through twice in the past week - what an enjoyable listen. So today my CARPENTERS SONG OF THE DAY is the upbeat and sunshiny "Sweet Sweet Smile".
