:I guess we're all still in kind of a Christmasy mood, ever since I heard Karen singing "Santa Claus is coming to Town" last wk., I've had that one stuck in my mind. At the time I heard it over the radio while visiting my nephew and he was driving us around some fancy houses all lit up. The song came on and my sister knows how crazy I am about the C's, and usually will turn the thing up just so I can hear it. My sis told Barry her son..my nephew..."oh you know you have to turn it up, that's Kathy's girl singing" not in a sarcastic way. Barry said "Oh, you like the Carpenters?...I didn't know that (he's not the brightest of nephews..ha) I always liked them too!" Anyway, that's an old favorite of the Xmas tunes, and so it's been stuck in my head. I do also agree as far as the song "He Came Here For Me" which Beth mentioned. It's a beautiful one with a Superb message for us all. :'(I also agree that Road Ode is an under-rated song. It really makes me think of how R. and K. must have really felt about their success and living such a hectic life. Karen has such a perfect voice with that one too, she can hit those high and low notes unlike anyone ever. I like when it says "I wonder if these feelings ever change, how long I'll lift this load."

^^ Song of the day.........today, that would have to be My Body Keeps Changin My Mind....so intricate - crafted so expertly. I can't imagine how many hours this took to put together. Karen had to be exhausted after working on this tune. As for Rode Ode, I must agree with Rick. VERY underrated. Rode Ode is a masterpiece. I've been there and done that - I was on the road with a jazz trio for a year, and was, in fact, on the road when the Song For You album came out. Rode Ode struck such a chord with me, and remains one of my all time favorite songs to this day. It should have been a number 1 hit in my book. ~Best Tim

@@ Tune of the day for me is "Top Of The World". I love this song and it always sounds fantastic coming out of the car speakers. Tim - "Road Ode" is truly a classic song and a strong way to come near the end of the album. "Road Ode" is also one of my all-time favorite songs.

My SOTD is Mr. Postman. This is my least favorite song off of Horizon but we are talking about Horizon after all. The part of the song that has got me hooked recently is the harmonies especially the aaah's in the song. For some reason they reminded me of a song by The Human League called Mirror Man (don't ask me how). These harmonies are another example of what I find irrisisable about Carpenters music Karen harmonising with herself. When she blends her high and low ranges in the harmonies its just too sweet and kind of unique cause she does it so well and flawlessly. BTW just an observation here I noticed that we disagree on Road Ode being under rated yet we cite the same reason for opposing view points I have never seen the same piece of evidence used to both prove and disprove a theory kind of weird. Hmmm

?* "All I Can Do". This is one of my most favorite songs by the Carpenters and most certainly my favorite on "Ticket To Ride". I really like the rhythm in this song. Karen's vocal is great and her drumwork is outstanding.

^^ My song of the day...."A Song For You"....Have been listening to, and missing Karen very much today. This one sums it all up for me. "....and when my life is over, remember when we were together - we were alone, and I was singing this song for YOU..." And she did, so many, many times. ~Best Tim

Karen and I were alone so many many times as she sang to me. What a beautiful awesome terrific voice. I just can not put into words what a gift she had.

Ok I am on one of my kicks again this time its Horizons turn. My SOTD is Aurora/Eventide. Being bookends both songs represent the same song to me. I just love Karens reading of this song its a perfect opening and closing song to this masterpiece the Carpenters produced. What can I say I love this song and I sooo love this album. &^ *%

My song of the day is; "Remember When Lovin' Took All Night". %* I recently reread the Liberty DeVitto interview and Lib states his favorite song from the solo album is "Remember When Lovin' Took All Night". Generally this is not a favorite for me. but I made sure to listen when this song came on and even played it a second time. I have re-evaluated my stand on this song and now consider it to be one of the best on the solo album.

My song of the day is Solitaire. It is not greatly different from Neil Sedaka's version but is an improvement. Unlike Neil when Karen sings this one it gives me that chill factor as does Richard's beautiful arrangement every sound and instrument just improves an already steller vocal perfomance by Karen. It was a wise decision for Richard to keep this song dispite the fact Karen did not like it (I do not know why she did not like it). I love this great song!

^^ Today, I'm humming Touch Me When We're Dancing. Such a great intro to this tune, and Karen sings it like she's having such fun, and with such feeling...."I wanna feel you when I'm fallin' in love...." ~Best, Tim

@@ I have chosen this one before but truly today my song is "Road Ode". I just love this wonderful dark, deep, dramatic and soulful song. This song is intense. It has a high level of emotion and definitely has that "chill factor".

Wow I really must be Karen crazy to choose this song of the day but my SOTD is A Parting Of Our Ways I believe the only 2 places to find this one are on the From The Top disc and the original Magic Lamp recording. It is rather raw and certainly not near as sophisticated as Carpenters recordings but it was a young Karens first stab at a recording career and I like this song and its been in my head for days now. I just love anything Karen sings no matter how poorly produced or raw sounding the recording is!

I love this song. I really like the somewhat innocent lyric. And Karen's voice is great here.
