Just a note..I received a very special gift the other day...it was some Carpenters cassette tapes...one of which is "Old Fashion Christmas"...which I had never heard before even though I do have the other Christmas recording the C's came out with...but the Old Fashion Christmas one has more songs on it and many of which I had not heard done by them. All the classic tradional songs are there, but I especially love the ones...He Came Here For Me and "The Little Alter Boy".... Hearing all that great great music performed like only THEY can do, just really was inspirational and uplifting to me! So, if anyone has any doubts (and why would they?!) about that one, please don't hesitate in getting it. I normally do not listen to Christmas music quite this early in the year...but I was really glad I did on this time.

I greatly enjoy both Christmas records (Portrait and Old Fashoned) it makes Christmas all the better when I hear Karen sing Cristmas songs and I am not generally a fan of most artists renditions of Christmas songs but as usual Karen is the exception. Since 1978 the Carpenters and Christmas have gone hand and hand for me now if I could only get my hands on those two Christmas specials ooooh that would be sooo sweeeet!!!!

The Carpenters are the masters of holiday music. My only regret is that Karen didn't sing lead on the title track. I am not a fan of Richard's singing, but I think this song is wonderful and would have loved to hear Karen introduce it to the world. I haven't heard anyone else cover it on their Christmas albums. Has anyone heard it recorded by other artists?

Because "An Old Fashioned Christmas" is unreleased material from "Christmas Portrait", there is a very long "lead in" until we hear Karen sing. I think this was used to good effect by Richard. By the time we hear Karen we are so ready. Considering Karen was gone, I think that Richard did a good job of using what was left for the new album. I understand he's releasing a new Christmas album this year. I'm looking forward to it. Perhaps he'll have his daughter sing on it. I understand he's been working with her and that she has talent. Has anybody heard about this? If she turns out to be half as good as Karen, we will have another star on our hands!

Just to add my part. I love "An Old Fashioned Christmas", it's truly wonderful. I love the cheerfulness of "Home For The Holidays", "What Are You Doin' New Year's Eve" has a fantastic 40's feel to it. And "Little Altar Boy" and "He Came Here For Me" are both absolutely inspiring.

hi everybody...thanks for the info Roland...and everybody...I did wonder just when Karen would chime up on the Old fashion recording...because much of it is beautiful instrumentals...anyway, all of it is just so very very good...and that will be quite a treat for Richard to come out with some recordings which would include his kids.

I just love to listen to the Carpenters Christmas music even if Christmas is 7 months away, its just so beautiful and puts me in a good mood, and uplifts my spirit when it's down I think it's really coooooooool how Karen & Richard can just make everything beautiful, they truly are the GREATEST That means the Christmas spirit is only 2½ months away(mid-November).[glow=red,2,300][/glow][shadow=red,left,300] [/shadow][shadow=red,left,300]Roland C.[/shadow][shadow=red,left,300] [/shadow]
