Hi everyone. First of all My name is Omar and I'm new to this discussion board. Sitting here in San Francisco I wanted to post my very first topic. I was the other day listening to all the albums one by one and decided to pick out a collection of Karen and Richard's most emotional or atmospheric moments. I deliberately avoided many of the commercial hits and instead concentrated on the more overlooked album cuts that a lot of people would probably not really listen to. To me this is where the real Carpenters emotional energy comes from:
1.someday 2.goodnight 3.maybe it's you 4.crescent noon 5.another song 6.superstar/rainy days and mondays(medley) 7.place to hideaway 8.sometimes 9.road ode 10.crystal lullaby 11.heather 12.yesterday once more(reprise) 13.aurora 14.sandy 15.he came here for me 16.little alter boy

Hi Omar and Welcome to the forum!!! I think you are right on target with emotion-filled songs. Karen shows so much feeling in these great tunes. I'll add a few more to the list: Boat to Sail Somebody's Been Lyin' Where Do I Go From Here Ave Maria Something's Missin'

Hi Omar, welcome to the forum your choices are right on the mark and the song He Came Here For Me, when I listen to that, the tears always flow, its like Karen reaches right down to my soul to remind me that Christ came down to this earth for me, and all mankind, wow what a song, and what a wonderful person Karen was, I sure do miss her

Hey Omar!! Welcome to the collective. I love all of your choices the only one I would add is One More Time. For me the segways between Crystal Lullabye, Road Ode, and Song For You reprise are a chill factor group. JIM

WELCOME and...SOLITAIRE. One of the best songs she ever did...showcasing her vocal range, her emotional sadness describing a lonely man...you know, I always thought she was singing about a man, that could have been her boyfriend, who lost his love thru his indifference, and she was reflecting of it. Well, I know it's a song, but it's still neat to think that that is what she may have been thinking while recording it. Cam

Welcome Omar. I was struck by your choices and other replies. It seems like we name just about every song they ever recorded for just about every topic. Who else but Karen and Richard could have so many superb songs to choose from?
Your topic is excellent. Due to the lateness of the hour, I can't think of anything else, which is unusual for me! LOL

I was just listening to the "Now & Then" album. I love the enitre disc. "I Can't Make Music" is such a powerful soulful and emotional song. But I'll tell you this time around it was "Yesterday Once More" that really struck me. That song is packed with emotion and sentimentality. It's no wonder it was such a huge hit in 1973.

I very much agree with you Rick, that song is really a wonderful song, I love hearing Karen sing it and I love hearing Richard play it, on his 2nd solo CD it truly is one of the greatest songs Richard/ Bettis - I said one of the greatest, there are truly so many others but this one is up there
