Just wanted to mention that the newest gospel cd by the Gaither Vocal Band (Bill Gaither has written many hymns and has a great many taped concerts through the years)...Bill Gaither, Guy Penrod, David Phelps, and someone else that doesn't come to mind now..... Anyway, my mom is a very big fan of the Gaithers...moreso than myself...I bought the newest tape for her called The Gaither Vocal Band......Accapella.... They do a short medley of songs and one is "Sing" and then the Coca Cola Song.."I'd like to Teach the World to Sing". These guys can really sing ...but in my opinion, (of course, I'm very biased because no one can do "Sing" like our favorite duo...) I do not care for the Gaither version of the song. My mom is altogether disappointed in the whole tape. It could be we're so used to hearing them sing with music, that we just can't accept it without music. In any case, for any of you out there that are fans of the Gaithers, I thought I'd let you know. There are many other people ...families who travel and sing with Bill and Gloria all across the country. Bill and Gloria once toured with Billy Graham. Ricky Skaggs and Larry Gatlin are also friends of theirs and are featured on some of the tapes or cd's.

;D I do know R. Skaggs because I know from seeing him some yrs. ago when he became well known. As you mention bluegrass music, my brother has a cd of Alyson Krauss...a live recording. She sang some song or more in the movie "Brother Where Art Thou"...something about "let's go down to the river to pray" and I really liked the whole cd. I don't know who the guy is who sings with Alyson on that cd, but he's great on that. I did see that movie "Brother..." and it was good and funny.

The Carpenters' version of Sing was used as a promotion for a Christian radio station here in Dallas. The station advertises music that is safe and fun for the entire family. I was thriled to hear it, but since the Carpenters were secular artists, it didn't really fit.
On the other hand, I was raised in a pretty strict Christian home and the Carpenters were one of the few outside artists we were allowed to listen to. You can imagine the stir I caused when I brought home Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" in 1981! LOL!

hi Moe...that is interesting to know....I'm glad your folks allowed you to listen to the Carpenters! I'm fortunate to have grown up with a wide variety of types of music. My sister is still pretty much into the "oldies" stations, but she also listens to country and other types. My brother is kinda the same way. I'm thankful that no one was into heavy metal or too much heavy rock. I don't think that would've been allowed too much. And none of us kids ever got into drugs as were so common or drinking thankfully. My dad smoked all his life, and my bro. did too for a while. I never had the desire to smoke since it clogs up my nose too much!
I love Olivia N. J.! I like almost all her music..especially when she took a sexy turn with "Physical" and that's a great song!s
