Wow, that's a tough one. I think of Karen too much as a big sister to ever think of her in a romantic sense. But, I would still want to sing something like "You Are So Beautiful To Me", because she really was beautiful to me.

Hi All, I would sing a medley of CARPENTERS hits to her...Probabably...
Sharing horizons that are new to us Watching the signs along the way Talking it over just the two of us Working together day to day Together On the day that you were born The angels got together and decided to create a dream come true So they sprinkled moondust in your hair of golden starlight in your eyes There was a certain face That filled a thousand nights With all the sweetest dreams and promises of you tonight but we're closer now When it rains I don't feel cold Now that I have your hand to hold The winds might blow thru me but I don't Care And now, now when we touch Me when we're dancing You know you've got that loving touch Woah touch me when we're dancing I want to feel you are the one who makes me happy Is the way I feel Falling in love Falling in love with you came Maybe you can't see how much you mean to me You were the dawn breaking the night The promise of morning light filling the world surround me And when I hold you baby baby Don't you remember you told me you loved me baby You said you'd be coming back this way again baby Baby baby baby baby oh baby I love you I really do...
My silly thoughts, Cam

I think "Thanks for the Memories," the old Bob Hope song, would fit. I can't remember a time when Karen and Richard's music was not a part of my life and making life just a little bit better!

I don't really see myself in a romantic setting with Karen but I probably would not refuse the opportunity if it arose. In a romantic setting, with alot of encouragement and maybe a shot or two of courage, I would sing her the song Something by the Beatles. I would substitude the she with you and I chose this song because it is regarded as one of the greatest love songs ever written and I love the song. Personaly I would avoid the Carpenters material...It would seem too strange and the added pressure to sing Karen back her own songs would keep me from choosing them.

Well I might try "Sing" since Karen sang sing, sing a song, make it simple to last your whole life long - don't worry if it's not good enough - just sing, sing a song. La La La La. I'd ask her to join me and I'd try to blend with her and we'd probably both fall down laughing!

Well with the new set of perameters given, I would have to say The Girl From Impanema. I hear this song at least 30 times a week. My partner plays it live at every gig on Sax. My favorite station Love 94 F.M. plays it daily and its was the first song that I learned how to play all of the crazy back up jazz chord inversions on, and it makes a great song for a man and a woman to sing together. It would stil require a shot or two or three of something to calm my nerves if I were in this situation. JIM

O.K Hide the bottle! First let me say I have literally been around the world more than once and the Burgh is still my favorite place. Boy thats tuff. If they left it up to me, I would love to take them to Falling Water. Just enough driving time for talking and a great place just to hang out. Kennywood, what can I say what it lacks in size,it makes up for in its unique charm and just as historical as Falling Water. I think I would still head straight for the Racer! The burgh really has something for everyone unlike Ft. Lauderdale! You can only stare at the Atlantic so long and its to much of a continous traffic pile up for a fun car ride.

I would want to live my lifelong dream and sing one one of their tunes with her in harmony. I pick A Place to Hideaway.

???Dave...I think you're quite a character!!!!!! Kinda crazy but nice! Anyway, Everyone's come up with really good ideas. I first thought of the song "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing" ...(the Coke song) that I'd like to sing with Karen. From just me to her I like that idea of "Thanks for the Memories" (though, I can't sing very well and I don't know the words to the Thanks for....) I also thought of "Close to You." and if I was a guy and had those feelings about Karen...which I might...I'd sing ...or better yet, play John Denver's "Annie's Song"...."you fill up my senses..."

Well, Dave, you do strike me as one who is good hearted and in fact, I think most folks that do have a real soft spot for the Carpenters, are good hearted and certainly have been blessed to have known the C's growing up or been touched with them as new fans. Now wouldn't that be neat to have a ceiling fan that had either the Carpenters logo on each blade and/or a photo of them... Anyway, yes, I'm sure I watched most of the Indiana Jones shows, but really haven't seen any in yrs. I know in one is a big cave that he finds himself caught in with lots of snakes(ewww!) and then it's funny where he's running away from a huge ball of mud or something. Anyway, that would be funny about what you mentioned about Karen and your wife being called at the same time. anyway,....so it goes...

I think the song that I would sing is " Good Friends Are For Keeps", for Karen is like a best friend to me, someone that I could talk to about anything and know she would understand and care about my thoughts

hi Dave and everybody...this has turned out to be an interesting thread indeed. Dave, I think I recall the scene in the movie you're talking about, and that is funny. There were several series of the Indiana Jones and then a tv short-lived series of the young Indiana Jones. Beth, I don't think I know the song Best Friends are For Keeps...but it reminds me of the song Dionne Warwick recorded "That's What Friends are For". I have had one or two best friends in my life, and such friends don't come along very often, or time or circumstances, somehow get blocked and such relationships fade away. But the memories are always there, just as they are with Karen. I think she must have been a great friend to those she was able to be close to. She surely deserved more time and more of all those things life had to offer outside of fame. And thinking of her now....she loved singing and meeting fans, but she realized she needed to break away from all the touring and just be herself...and marry and have kids...the whole works. We're all here not just to find some happiness for ourselves, but help others too. hey Dave, be careful looking at the fan blades too much!

Hi Smoothie2, the song is form the 4 CD set From The Top, it is an old AT&T commercial and about Karen being a good friend to those she knew in Conneticut, at least from what I have read, Karen called them alot or wrote letters to them all the time and never lost contact with her old friends or her new friends

The thought of actually singing for Karen is so hard to imagine, but I tried and what I came up with was the song "This guy's in love with you"by Herb Alpert..Not for the romance of the song, but rather because of the feel and innocence of it!!Its a song I would loved to have heard from the Carpenters !! I cant sing a note,so it would be terrible, but its the thought that counts! Steve

LOL I don't have much of a singing voice. But I'd probably sing "I Won't Last A Day Without You" and "I Have You." Karen would make such a wonderful friend and these two songs are one's that make me think of the special friends that have touched my life. So those would be perfect to sing to Karen (or in my case, ATTEMPT to sing LOL!!!) "Sometimes" is such a nice song too and kind of falls into the same category as the latter two. So that would be a nice one to sing to Karen too.

Hi All, Yeah, I think Karen was the type of person, who didn't seem to mind if fans voices weren't the greatest. She loved the fact that they sang from their hearts even if they sang off key, or were shakey. Now, if it were her band, that is a different story. She was the boss! She and Richard! They expected perfection from them, and rightfully so as it was their name on the marquee. And they treated them wonderfully, financially, and not just as their "back up band."
My thoughts, Cam
