;D greetings to all...here in Carp Land.... Just something popped up in my head...if you were given the chance to sing a song or songs with R. and Karen or you could be featured with them on one of their album covers...which songs or album would you choose? And yes I know some of you may think...wow R. and K. surely had an act all their own..boy would I goof it all up...since I can't carry a tune...(ha)...which is true in my case... But just supposing... I would choose Top of the World and Only Yesterday As far as an album cover...I'd choose the photo which is the inside of the Horizon vinyl album where R. and K.are standing I think under some trees on a little white bridge thing...each of them are wearing grayish outfits. Since I would surely look dumb there...I'd be mostly behind a tree kinda peeking out at them. any thoughts..from y'all?

Ha! Ha! Smoothie you really have a fun sense of humor.
If I could have sang a song with Karen on a Carpenters album it would have had to be something upbeat like "Sweet Sweet Smile" or "Jambalaya" as these songs really fit my style best.
Gee album cover maybe it would have been fun to sit in that red Ferrari with K&R on the "Now & Then" cover.

I think I would put my face next to them on the "Made in America" cover photo. Then I would be one of the backup singers on "Sing." I don't think I could mess up too much by singing, "la la la la la...."

I Won't Last a Day Without You!!!
I also would have loved to do the medley of songs they do on Now and Then like Johnny Angel, etc.

I would have to go with the Medley on Now and Then record or Only Yesterday I would be a background vocalist because I could not hold a candle to Karens voice or perhaps do Richards parts in the Medley. As far as album covers I would have to say Horizon's cover (maybe on the other side of Karen kind of boy girl boy thing) because its my favorite but I could not imagine where I would fit in on such an awsome cover (3 people on that cover would be strange). If I were on that cover I would still look at it and ask what that guy is doing on the cover with Richard and Karen?

I forgot about the second part of this thread. For which cover I'd like to be a part of I'd have to say either Close to You cause it seems to be by an ocean and I love the ocean or Passage as I love to do abstract art and the Passage album design is pretty neat.

If only I could sing...but I can only make large machinery sing. Since I am the same dimensions as Toby Keith, I have the same tonal range. Same with Hank Williams Jr. Six years ago I was doing a power plant startup about 100 miles north of Mexico City, and very late one night I began singing "Sixteen Tons", to which the locals responded "Cantore, Cantore". I tried to escape, but they wouldn't quit until I sang it! They must've never seen any real talent, and unless something has happened in the six years hence they still haven't! In my case, singing a duet with Karen would most likely cause a sonic resonance that would be extremely dangerous to children and domestic pets!

I would have loved to been a part of Song For You I spent a year on private voice lessons but am still terrified of singing Karaoke. I have been so intrigued with multi tracking and the carpenters from age 6 my partner who earns a living playing sax finds it errie that I can match pitch and vocal stlyle so well. For now I am focusing on song writing and helping Robert in the production of his solo project. Can't wait for its completition, it will contain a Carpenters cover even if he kicks and screams! JIM

some good thoughts here and drivin dave..funny..
JGH.... :-/good luck on helping your partner with his project...Though I have always liked to sing and do often...and when I was younger some thought I could sing ok...but I never had the patience and devotion nor much of understanding on how to read music. And this may not fit in exactly w/ this thread Rick...I happened to hear Rosemary Clooney sing "hey There...you with the stars in your eyes..." I can easily imagine Karen handling that one... she enjoyed the older style of music too and Carps surely respected and enjoyed such guests as Perry Como on their shows..and Ella Fitzgerald. A friend I grew up with and who went to state competition for her voice, we long ago lost contact...when Karen hits some high notes it makes me think of Becky. Becky was mostly known for her alto though.

Wow, if I could sing any song with Karen and Richard, it would probably be "Sweet, Sweet Smile." I like how it has an upbeat, country sound. For the album cover...I'd choose the "Ticket to Ride" album cover just so I could sit on the boat with them. Laura

I'm the world's worst singer, but if I could sing I'd like to sing along on Please Mr. Postman or It's going To Take Sometime.
I like Rick's idea about sitting in the red Ferrari on the Now and Then cover.
