The perfect Carpenters album cover would show K&R standing in front and center with the band behind them. I always felt their backing band should have been shown on an album cover. Also a picture of them in the studio would have been interesting. Something that looks more spontaneous as opposed to being posed.

A nice photo collage would have been nice. Perhaps a picture of Karen on her drums in one corner, Richard at his piano in another, candid shots of them, etc.

I have to agree with Rick on this one I have seen imported album/single covers that show Karen, Richard and the backing band on them and they look great. The Spanish release of Close To You (not sure if it was the single or album) comes to mind and I think the photo on that cover would have made a good album cover in America. I have often felt the backing band was partially responsible for the Carpenters sound even if Richard was directing/instructing them.

I do like the idea of having the band on an album cover with R. and K. because they definitely played a tremendous part with them. It's just we tend not to think too much of background vocals or music in one of their songs because R. and K. could sing so well all on their own.
I like the idea of just on the spur of the moment photos with them all around in the studio or in concert.smoothie

Howdy, I have to disagree. The backing band was important for live shows and appearances, but they were NOT the Carpenters. They helped to bring more voices into Richard and Karen singing live. So for a Carpenters album, I would love for it to have the logo up top and then a gorgeous photo of them, one that has never been used before, and one that looks contemporary. Then on the inside, a collage of wonderful pics of our duo.
My thoughts, Cam

hi Cam...I stand corrected...it's true R. and Karen truly were in a class all to themselves as far as just how greatly talented they were. I re-read that post I made and I really made it sound like the band was more important than R. and K. and that's surely not what I meant. sorry....

have you ever seen the cover albums of other artists? i am convinced karen was the inspiration on some of them - such as KD Lang's ingenue album cover where she's looking downwards and her eyes are closed. Karen iconized that pose at the end of her performances of songs such as superstar and rainydays and mondays. i bet i am right about this.

???hi Rob...I really haven't noticed other album covers ...but that's interesting...I think you're probably right on those thoughts...Karen and Richard influenced the music world so very much in all ways.
I also had another thought for an album cover that would have been neat I think...and that's one that would also feature them with their 2 dogs. Maybe part of that collage ideal. I think B. Manilow had a pic. on the back of one of his vinyl albums which had him with his 2 basset or beagle hounds...

Maybe a winter picture of Karen on the cover wearing a big coat with her holding two leashes (one in each hand) with each dog. And Richard in the background maybe waiting at the door of their house.

I agree with Cam. Like Steely Dan (Becker & f*gan) the studio band didn't tour, and as such became more like Chrissy Hind's "Pretenders". Hey Cam, did you get the e-mail I sent you? Any pictures of K&R just being happy together would be nice. Myself, I'm partial to tropical beach settings, and maybe the two of them sharing a hammock slung between two palm trees would've been nice.

Or another beautiful picture would be him at the keyboards and her singing. You know, that pic of Karen and Richard where Karen is wearing her red satin suit, and Richard is wearing a USA Patriotic outfit, well I read on ebay that Karen's mom made that suit. Neato. I always thought Karen looked beautiful then.
Yes, Dave, I did get that email.

Yes ....covers of Carpenters in the STUDIO or on Stage surronded by group members / engineers etc would be neat Equally Karen & Richard surronded by fans either at concerts or receptions or personal appearances would be interesting alternatives to overused other official photos ..... Peter
