Would be nice if that song would have been included on "As Time Goes By". (I bought U.S. copy today - will share more on that in another post). That leads me to believe that there has to be yet another rarities disc instore. Richard has to know how much fans want this song released. What I'd really like to hear is the studio version of "Thank You For The Music" the Carpenters recorded in 1978 during the "Christmas Portrait" sessions.

After GOLD USA success -sadly it appears that Universal / A&M USA are just issuing ATGB as a catalog release with no special promotions planned ....all very sad and typical of Universal Music Monster Ideally Richard will undertake some interviews / promotion for ATGB and generate awareness / sales. Now ATGB has been issued in most major markets ....Richard can after his long -in -progress album ...consider future Carpenters releases. I would love to see : Carpenters ATGB DVD / Video release Carpenters USA or Vegas LIVE CD plus DVD / Video Carpenters Studio set from 1980's ( with perhaps 2 tracks from 1978 sessions -if better songs / recordings quality ) Carpenters Rarities set ....many more TV / Radio / Demos etc available for release Your Navy Presents .....1970 Radio Special plus some extras .....great live set Sadly unless Richard decides to complete 1 or 2 unissued Karen Solo tracks ....(like Something's Missing) and Phil Ramone agrees to work further on unissued cuts ....Karen's Solo outtakes are unlikely to be completed / issued officially with full audio sounds Hey ....we don't want much as Carpenters fans ..... Peter....Future Treaures ? .....

:-XThey recorded "Thank You For The Music"? ABBA's song? If so, AWESOME! ABBA is all my all-time favorite vocal group. And to think the Carpenters recorded one of their songs makes me wish it had been included on "As Time Goes By". I would love to see the Karen/John Denver duet from the first special released in some capacity. Anyone else?

@& We've heard many times about the live recording of "Thank You For The Music" from the "Tonight Show". Though many people are unaware that there is a studio recording of the song. It was mentioned in a 1978 issue of the original fan club newsletter. It was said that Karen and Richard had been recording and that a new single was scheduled for release. They said it was a toss up between "Dancing In The Street" and "Thank You For The Music". According to this newsletter there are full length studio recordings of both songs. I hope one day we get the pleasure of hearing both.

Another song that I hope finds its way to an official release is Comin Through The Rye/Good Vibrations. Maybe in the future Richard may decide to add a rarities download center at his web site for people like us. JIM

As usual I learn something new every time I read the new postings. I too would love to hear Thank You For The Music. What would it take for Richard and Universal to agree to this. Perhaps we could sign a petition and send it to them? We're all getting older so the sooner the better don't you think?

I have heard that there is a complete studio version of "Dance in the Old Fashioned Way." Karen sang that one with John Davidson on the "Space Encounters" special, and I've always considered it one of Karen's greatest "lost" performances. Too bad this song wasn't included on ATGB. Supposedly, the complete version has Richard singing John's part, just like he did on "You're Just in Love." Whenever Richard releases any of the rare tracks, like on "From the Top", "Interpretations" or "As Time Goes By," I always scan the track list quickly to see if "Dance" is included. So far I've been disappointed. Maybe some day....

Thanks, Beth! It's been a while since I have posted. I have agreed with all the songs that have been mentioned. I'm sure I'm like all the other Carpenters fans when I say that just about anything unreleased by them would be welcome! There's still plenty of time, so who knows what we'll see come out in the future?!

I hope one day we get the pleasure of hearing both. You are right Rick, as Thank You For The Music was recorded in 1978 and I believe it was one of many songs recorded at that time to be released on their 1979 album that never happened. Other song from the same time were I Believe You, Dancing In The Streets, and Honolulu and Slow Dance (these were recored during Christmas Portrait sesion). Due to Richards health issues(addiction) they were not able to deliver an album in 1979, and most songs were shelved. There was a toss between which song to release as a single, but I believe it was betweet TYFTM and I Believe You. Thank You For The Music was planned to be on As Time Goes By, apparently it was remixed but was pulled from the album at the very last moment for reasons unknown. It is a shame, I would have loved to hear it and I still dream about hearing it. I`ve heard that Richard thought their version was not up to par with ABBA`s and therefor did not want it released in the end. Let`s hope we all get to hear this song soon!

Thanks Jim. But are you referring to the live or the studio version? Already have the live one, on both CD and video. Their appearance on the Tonight Show is great by the way, Karen is really funny! Richard, well....., let`s blame it on the Quaalues ;-)
