Hi All, I had a cute story to share. I am staying with a good friend of mine named Sandi, and her 10 year old son Nico. Well, as fate would have it. Nico is now one of the youngest and newest fans. He loves the Carpenters! His favorite song is CALLING OCCUPANTS OF INTERPLANETARY CRAFT. He adores that song! He knows it off by heart. He also watched THE KAREN CARPENTER STORY with me, so when he hears a song, he can tell you bits of info on that song. He even will go to school, and since his classmates don't know who Karen Carpenter is, he will mention it to his teachers who DO know who Karen Carpenter was. Every night we read a story together, and then we pray together. Then he will softly put on the Carpenters on the cd player. He really liked that song, "Hurting other people" which I translated as, "Hurting Each Other." And he is big fan of "Please Mr. Postman" and he now loves the many medleys the Carpenters sang. I am just tickled pink about this. His favorite album is YESTERDAY ONCE MORE, so I gave him my cds for him to keep.
My thoughts, Cameron

What a good story. Thanks Cam. I have an interesting story to share myself. I have a friend, his name is Tommy. He's 41 years old and has Downs Syndrome. Mentally he is the equivalent of a twelve year old child. He works at a local pizza place sweeping the floor and cleaning the tables. One day we were talking about music. I hadn't said anything about who or what I liked yet. He said, "The best groups of all the groups are the Beatles and Elvis Presley and the Carpenters. Karen Carpenter is my favorite". I found it so interesting that Karen's voice is able to make it's way through to people of all ages, backgrounds, beliefs, male and female. Karen really had a special gift.

;DHow special! The Carps. will always be with us and throughout new generations...because they had what it takes to reach people far and wide. I just recall those early days they were first on the radio...and even though I was only 11 or 12...Karen immediately connected with my own feelings ... Their sound...had meaning when so many other groups aimed their music toward hard rock, or others were nothing but like cotton candy..(which I love too) not long before it evaporates in your mouth....

The neat thing is that I accidently left my Carpenters cd in Sandi's vehicle, and he found it and played it . This was all by accident. He just loves "That alien song" and what he mentions about Karen's voice is that he asks me, "why does she always seem to sing about love?" and I mention to him that people always liked to hear her sing about love, and some of her biggest hits deal with love.
