Hello everyone, I was just in Los Angeles, and I saw the new crypt at Pierce Brothers, Thousand Oaks, CA. I really do not like the new location, compared to Forest Lawn Cypress, CA. For starters, it's quite a drive from downtown LA. The typical person is not going to make a special trip to see it, especially if their time is limited. A fan might see Forest Lawn on their way to Disneyland, (which was Karen's favorite place on Earth), or Knott's Berry Farm. There isn't too much near Thousand Oaks. Eddie Cochran is also buried at Forest Lawn, I doubt if there is any other famous person interred at Thousand Oaks. Forest Lawn is very famous, and famous people are associated with Forest Lawn, and a person might have stumbled onto the fact that Karen was buried at a Forest Lawn cemetary looking them up. Who has ever heard of Pierce Brothers? Forest Lawn cemetary is a very nice looking place, with statues, paintings, and a church. Pierce Brothers is much smaller, newer, and doesn't have very much to look at. The Carpenter crypt at the top of a hill seems set apart. It's the only masoleum at the cemetary. Forest Lawn had a giant mural showing Jesus going up to Heaven, above the crypt was a painting showing Mary, the infant, a lamb and a lion, and there was pedestal nearby that quoted John 14:3. At Pierce Brothers there is a big crypt, near a tree, a creek, and some other graves. Inside the masoleum, are 6 crypts-3 on the right and 3 on the left. The 3 on the right, from top to bottom, are Karen, Harold, and Agnes. The 3 on the left are empty. They could contain Richard, Mary, and another relative. I do not think for a second it will be burris, t. I saw some flowers on the outside of the tomb. If Richards' idea was to have the family crypt nearer to his new house in Thousand Oaks, he succeded. If the idea was also to keep fans away, he also succeded. I cannot download pictures from my computer. If you want to compare the grave sites, go to Find a Grave. com That's all I have to write for now. I just wish that Richard had left the remains where they were. ;D Bennett

I think that if Richard felt this was the right thing for him to do than it was the right thing. after all this is his family.
I've seen pictures of both locations and think both are beautiful. I like the new location because it's atop a lonely hill. Somewhat symbolic of Karen.

It's hard to say what the new location really looks like when all we see is the beautiful crypt with the Carpenter name on it. It does looks like a nice place to sit quietly and enjoy the openness with the concrete benches on both sides of the walkway.
Personally, after visiting the Forest Lawn mauseleum, I can say that it was a very nice place there too where it was amongst many others including some famous people. However, being a true fan, if I wanted to find her new place of rest, I would be willing to go out of my way to find it without any complaints as she's worth it.
I think Richard's intent was to keep her closer to him and if he did that, then his job was done.
As far how many places there are in this crypt, you say that there are 3 more. We know that 2 are for Richard and Mary. Possibly the third is for the cousin that lived with them for many years and who was thought of as one of the Carpenter children.
Anyone that can shed light on that, please do. I only remember this from the newsletters.
Have a great day everyone!

???Since I am quite a very long ways from CA.....and little chance currently of going there ...I am glad to know about both of the burial places. Richard is very fortunate to have the liberty and money to be able to have his family remains where he feels is most comfortable for him. I thought it sounded a little odd for him to have moved them, but this is something that is not uncommon I don't think. For me, personally, I like to be close to my family in life and to be able to go to their resting places gives me some peace. Even though, they live on in my heart and memories always, their spirits are at peace for now. I like to be able to go and feel that peace if possible. To many folks, this isn't how they feel at all. Once that person is buried, then they feel little need to go to the cemetery, because they know that body is gone and the soul is at rest.
well, I didn't mean to go off quite that much..but that's how I feel.

sounds like Karen and her family are in a secure and peaceful place and Richard is a very devoted brother and son.
