Hi all!
I was flipping through the TV channels the other day and just caught the end of Michael Moore`s show(of Bowling for Columbine fame) and there was quite a mention of Karen and the Carpenters. He was joined by some gay and lesbians and they met up with some anti-gay demonstraters who were flashing big billboards with "god hates f*gs" etc. Well, Michael approached one of the women and asked if she would sing Amazing Grace with them and she replied: "who do you think I am? Karen Carpenter?" followed by a mocking facial expression.
The gay/lesbian crowd then started singing the song Sing, and the anti-gay woman just said: "she had anorexia you know" and started singing along but with the lyrics " God, god hates f*gs", really mocking the song. Then Micheal Moore came with a voiceover and said: "one thing is trashing the gays, but the Carpenters??"
Although the poor woman was intolerant and hateful, I found it even more appaling as she started to trash Karen and the Carpenters. But it was interesting to suddenly se the Carpenters mentioned on TV.
Have any of you seen this program?

I am on the opposite end of politics than Michael Moore, so I wouldn't spend time watching him. I would look at something like this as more exploitation from Michael and take it for what it was worth....nothing.
my opinion only....

Everything I have ever been taught and learned about God is that His nature is love not hate.
Here are a few passages from the Bible:
Matthew 5:44 - Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
Galatians 5:22 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Leviticus 19:18 - Love your neighbor as yourself.

Hi all!
When I posted this thread my intention was simply to share a Carpenters mentioning on tv, something that does not happen often here in Norway. It was not my intention to start some sort of debate on various issues on this forum, but please feel free to make comments as long as we keep it civilized.
I am no fan of Michael Moore myself, I seldom watch his shows but it was a coincidence this evening. However, I do think that MM adresses some serious issues and puts the spotlight on many things that are important to a society. In another program he put the spotlight on how illegal immigrants were used by hotel chains etc, and in another program how a company tested new drugs on people which weren`t safe without telling this to the ones testing them. These are serious issues which must see the light of day!
I will say a thank you to my dear friend Rick though, whos posting I agree with totally. God is love!!
I will also end by saying that as a modern society we cannot accept that our fellow human beings are harrassed and trashed just because they have a different skin color, background or who they fall in love with. This is not the way to do it in a modern society, it is not in a good christian way and it is certainly not the way Jesus would have been towards other people.

???Right you are Rick...I understand Christian...it seems that we hear more lately about our favorite group in the news perhaps because of the newest release of their 35th anniv. album and etc. I am glad that they are more in the news, even if things are said in a negative way at times....There are many new fans of the Carpenters as a result and this is good because the Carps. have brought happiness to so many...their wonderful music and the way it can surely touch a heart. In a world so full of bitterness and hate, there is always a need for peaceful music . Karen and Richard live on ! She was such a beautiful caring woman and this is easily portrayed and felt in her songs.
