If you could choose any Carpenters song that you think could be a hit today what would it be?
There are so many but I'd have to say I Just Fall In Love Again has real potential to be a hit on today's market.

Interesting question.
I think I'd choose either '(I'm Caught Between) Goodbye And I Love You' or 'Love Me For What I Am' from Horizon.
They speak to real relationship problems that I don't think have been addressed by other artists.
They're songs that even long time Carpenters' fans (myself included until recently) may have never heard. I'm speaking of radio fans who didn't go out and buy all the CDs.
I'd think it would be great for an old Carpenters' song to be released as a single and then move to the top of the charts.

:-/I have to go with either " Desperado" or "I Just Fall In Love Again" both are timeless songs which could be a hit in any generation.
I also think Karen's solo "Make Believe It's Your First Time" or "Guess I Just Lost My Head" could do very well now-a-days.

My vote is for "Tryin' to Get the Feeling Again." I believe that it could have been a hit in 1995 when it was first released, if only A&M had given it some promotion. That was the same year that the two 'new' Beatles songs were released to great fanfare and radio play. TTGTFA is a much better song than both of those Beatles tunes, but nobody ever heard it but us.
From Karen's solo sessions: "Love Making Love to You" is the best song from that entire effort. It should have been included on the album. It could have been a hit then, and it could still be a hit today, with the right promotion.

^^^ What a coincidence. Only a few hours after I made that post yesterday, I was listening to Matt Drudge's radio show. As the show came back from commercial, some bumper music started playing, and it was "Tryin' to Get the Feeling Again"!! Matt let it play up to the "read every book/looked" part, then started talking as the song faded out.
He seems to be a Carpenters fan. I've heard him use "Still Crazy After All These Years" from Karen's solo album in the past. I wonder if he ever posts at any Carpenters boards?

Something's Missing from Karen's unreleased material would make a great single. With the popularity of country-pop right now Two Sides could also be a good single.

I would vote for "I Just Fall In Love Again" and " Desperado" as today's potential hits. It would be great to have them attached to a movie and soundtrack to get some real exposure!

"Trying to Get the Feeling Again" and "Karen's Theme". I can not choose between the two. I am happy they were included in the 4-CD "Essential Collection", and the 2-CD "Gold". If they still sell single songs, one would be a side-A and one would be a side-B. ;D

Either If I had You or Where Do I Go From Here could probably be hits.

For the Christmas season 3 songs come immediately to mind ... the jazz version of Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town, Ave Maria, and Little Altar Boy.
For everyday tunes ... hmm, I'll have to put some real thought into it and come back with an answer.
Great topic revival!

I think we've talked about it briefly before, but I just listened today and it's fresh in my mind again: though it's brief, "Good Friends Are For Keeps" is optimistic, kind of jazzy, has a great beat, and the usual outstanding vocals and instrument mix. I can imagine it being a TV theme song/ (I actually don't catch much TV, but maybe for a light comedy/drama type show?)

E, GREAT topic....thanks for finding this little gem.....As for me, I would like to see Love Me For What I Am have a go as a single - because - like Will said - it's a tune about a real tough, touching, hurtful relationship problem that many have faced. I think it would catch the ear of the masses, and could definitely be a hit. From her solo album, I believe Makin' Love in the Afternoon would have a good response, as well as If I Had You, one of my favorites from Karen's solo effort. Although, I'm also REALLY fond of the solo album's version of "Make Believe It's Your First Time." Yes, definitely this version would hit number 1, without a doubt. Perfect for today's audiences. Another great topic find. Good job, Enigma...... Tim (I think it's time we just started all over again, and reintroduced ALL of the Carpenters tunes - just re-release them all - and see where they would land on the charts today).
