I remember reading in the Ray Coleman bio that just before the Carpenters signed with A&M, Karen auditioned for Kenny Rogers for a spot in his group. Richard was shocked that Karen didn't get hired. I have a 2 part question out of this...
1) Does anyone think/know if Karen may have purposely blown this audition so she wouldn't leave Richard behind or maybe wasn't interested in a recording career without Richard?
2) Does Kenny Rogers remember this? Was he a fan of the Carpenters, as well as being a contemporary of theirs

Those are some interesting thoughts. Could just be that Kenny may have been looking for someone with a different type of voice - that's just my take on it.
But it would be interesting to find out what really happened. I can't imagine that Karen didn't impress Rogers - she has such a beautiful magnificent voice.
Anyway the outcome worked for the best.

:)interesting..but no I don't know any info., her and Richard were meant to be and though I always love Kenny, I can't see Karen and him blending near as well as it all turned out.

Also, Kenny has a strong style himself, and as we all know, Karen was a strong knockout singer even before she became famous, so it could be that he might have been a bit intimidated by the competition aspect. Just some thoughts.
