Hi!
I'm new to this forum, and I'm so thrilled to find other Carpenters fans to chat with. I'm 23 years old and grew up with the Carpenters, as my parents are avid Carpenters fans. In fact, every morning before I'd go to pre-school, I'd listen to my parents' 8-track of the "Close To You" album. Another favorite album I listened to a child was "Now And Then" but I called it "car Carpenter" because of the big red car on the front. I was too young to know about album titles.
I love the Carpenters so much, and there will never be another duo like them. "We've Only Just Begun" was my parents' wedding song in 1971, and "Superstar" was what my dad played countless times while he was in the service in the early 70's.
My all-time favorite Carpenters song is "Rainy Days And Mondays." The harmonizing on that song is unbelieveable! Of course, my parents and I really get a kick out of "Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft." That song is just too cool.
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself and say that I look forward to chatting with you all on this site!

WELCOME Superstargal!! It's so nice to meet you. I am cam83...or just plain Cameron in the real world. I too am a huge fan of the Carpenters. Their music is so wonderful! It can literally just take my breath away. Some of my fave songs of theirs are Top of the World, Only Yesterday, Solitaire, Superstar, Rainy Days and Mondays, We've Only Just Begun, as well as some of the non hits...A Place To Hideaway, One Love, Someday, Maybe It's You, Crescent Noon, Another SOng, Mr. Guder, Aurora-Eventide, One More Time, I HAve You, Sandy, Because We Are In Love, Two Sides, Now, Look To Your Dreams, Two Lives, Make Believe It's Your First Time, Rainbow Connection, Trying To Get That Feeling Again, Leave Yesterday Behind, as well as Yesterday Once More. Such gorgeous songs. OH yeah, I love Her version of AVE MARIA...truly sounds as if an Angel were singing it. Her voice was out of this world. That quality is unheard of even today. Yes, some can sound similar or at best, evoke memories of Karen's style and voice.
Anyways, WELCOME to this list...feel free to post your thoughts!! By the way, I am 31 and grew up on their music due to my Mom loving their songs...although it wasn't until I was 16 that I found out who this duo was...
My thoughts, Cameron clongo83@hotmail.com

welcome and a warm hello Superstargal! I try to extend a welcome to all the fans, but don't always catch all of them since thankfully our crew at this site is growing every day it seems. My "handle" is smoothie but I don't mind being kat either. You will find that this is a terrific site for all fans of our favorites! I just love all the songs and grew up with them. I'm glad to connect up with others who gladly acknowledge the fact. Richard and Karen were so great and still are for always. I guess Rainy Days and Mon. struck a real chord in me when I was about 12 or 13. I always had the radio on. I had a portable radio for outdoors and then of course a regular one and record player indoors. When I heard Karen I felt so in tune with the feelings of her songs..especially the sad ones ..she sounded like a loner like myself at the time. And then I saw her on tv and all the rest ..she and Richard could connect with people with happy and sad songs. And they weren't bad to look at either!..ha Richard in his early days in pics looks my brother kind of. anyway..I gobble gobble on...

Hi Superstargal, welcome to our forum. I really like your nickname, very original.
I'm 43 years old and have been in tune with the Carpenters since late 1971. I guess you can say I'm an original fan. I was there to witness the thrill of the rise of their popularity and the sadness of Karen's death. I'm still saddened about that.
My favorite tunes are; "Only Yesterday", "Desperado", "Prime Time Love", "Boat To Sail", "Rainy Days And Mondays", "Sweet Sweet Smile", "Two Sides", "Baby It's You", "Rainy Days And Mondays", "Superstar", "Those Good Old Dreams", "Road Ode", "A Song for You", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "This Masquerade", "I Can't Make Music", gee there's just too many to list.

My thoughts, Cameron clongo83@hotmail.com Thanks for the welcome Cameron! You have great taste in songs! I absolutely love "Solitare" and "Now" in addition to all the others. My mother remembers hearing "Now" while driving in the car (it was brand new back then), and the song still haunts her to this day, because she always felt that Karen was almost saying goodbye in the song. "Now" is such a gorgeous song! "Another Song" is also great, with a nice drum and keyboard solo with a flute towards the end. I also like "Love Is Surrender" and their Beatles cover of "Help." And oh yes, "Ave Maria," beautiful, just beautiful. Reminds me of the sweet and sensitve "Sometimes." Though short, the song is so lovely.

smoothie Thanks for your welcome and your nice thoughts smoothie2! I am very fortunate to have found this forum. I love it here already! I know exactly how you feel when you say you feel "in tune" with Karen when she sings. I feel the same way. Karen delivers a very honest, human emotion to each song, and I know we all can feel her genuine, heartfelt songs. Karen's voice was so sweet, clear, and innocent. I miss her dearly. I was a loner too when I was younger, but the music sure helped and inspired me! It continues to do so today, and for the rest of my life. The Carpenters are the best, and never will there be a duo like them again.

Hi Rick! Thanks for your welcome. What a great song list! Love 'em all. "I Won't Last A Day Without You" has been a particularly inspiring song in my life, and another fav I forgot to mention is "A Song For You;" kind of sad, but I absolutely love it!! Karen is magnificant! I'm so glad that you had a chance to follow the Carpenters from the start. I always feel like a throwback, since I'm a fan of 60's and 70's music and styles. My parents followed them all the way too. They got the pleasure of seeing them perform in Pullman, Washington in the early 70's. I'm very envious of them of course. My parents have good taste in music though, so I always had wonderful Carpenters music at my disposal as a child. They are truely the best!

Thank you Superstargal for all the very nice greetings you have written to Cam, Smoothie and myself. You seem like a very intelligent young adult. I think it's interesting how the Carpenters have quite a large amount of young fans. Their music and Karen's voice have transcended through time very well. They are timeless. I wouldn't be surprised if they're still this popular a hundred years from now. Quality never goes out of style. I was fortunate enough to see the Carps in Las Vegas in Decemer 1977 for my 18th birthday. Karen did her excellent drum solo, that was the highlight of the show for me, and she sang every song to perfection. If only I could see her live again, well maybe one day in the great beyond.

Hi Rick! Thank you for your kind words. You like the other people I have met on this forum in such a short time period, have made coming here a wonderful experience! What a wonderful birthday present! I'm glad you had that opportunity. I sure wish I had been around the see them in concert. Yes, Karen was an excellent drummer! I enjoy listening to some of the early Carpenters tracks from the "From The Top" box set where Karen really throws a beat! "Iced Tea" is a great example. Her solo on "Another Song" is great too. I listened to "Rainy Days And Mondays" about 3 or 4 straight times last night! It's my favorite Carpenters song, and I could listen to it forever. When I find Karen and Richard together again, perhaps they will sing it for me!
