Hi All, I recently obtained this album by Anita Kerr Singers titled, "Gentle As Morning" which was produced by Word Records in 1975. Listening to it is a beautiful experience. The lead vocalist...well she takes a lot of leads has a unique voice. Anita Kerr was the leader of this group, of 2 guys and another girl beside Anita herself. They even snagged a Grammy from the Beatles in the mid 1960's which shocked a lot of people. Anita and her group also did many background vocals for famous singers the world over during the 1960's and onwards. The album "Gentle As Morning" is a religious themed album with wonderful orcestration, heavenly harmonies, which are kind of complex...and remind me somewhat of the Carpenters...although they were well ahead of the Carpenters by being around earlier than Richard and Karen...so you can't say they copied the Carpenters...I wonder if Richard or Karen ever knew of this group?

A group which was a Christian group that I came to like because of their Carpenterish type harmonies and musical style is called Children Of The Day. they were around from 1969 until around 1978. They were two men and two women. The main lead vocalist was Marsha carter, who married and is now known as Marsha Stevens. One of their most famous songs is "For Those Tears I Died".
The lyrics are:
Jesus said, Come to the water Stand by my side I know you are thirsty You won't be denied I felt every teardrop when in darkness you cried And I strove to remind you For those tears I died.

:)Cam, I browsed through Tower Records site, and looked up the Kerr singers. It didn't list the Gentle as Morning album, but I did listen to sound bites of a few songs, and yes, they remind me of those kind of harmonies which are like our favorite duo. They also reminded me of "The Lettermen" group too which were (are) great. That Anita has a very clear and strong voice. I can see why they did back-up vocals for some commercials of those days. Also, I do love that Road.ode.com site with the old commercials and the videos of the Carps. and etc...I guess my mom thinks it's kinda silly to spend time with something like that. But I don't care. I do remember that some of those ads were really cornball..maybe not for then, but really are for now. And I know that the Carps did the singing for that one Morton chips ad, but they themselves were not in that one that is shown are they? It is mentioned that they were in another ad for Morton's , but I think they weren't in it, but just did the vocals again. Do you know?
