Another duet Karen could have done was with singer Rita Coolidge. She was the girl who sang SUPERSTAR on Joe Cocker's MAD DOGS AND ENGLISHMAN album. Rita has a beautiful voice as well. I think she is one of my new favorite singers...am I right to think that she was signed to A&M Records as well...

Oops. Another great singer to do a duet with Karen would be Jewel. Jewel is awesome. The song that Karen does for her solo session...TRULY YOU reminds me of Jewel in her phrasing...Karen was truly, truly remarkeable in her phrasing. I mean when Phil Ramone included LAST ONE SINGIN THE BLUES on the solo album, to show that this tune was typical of the amazing talent she had...to sing any kind of tune. I always think this is the standout track on her solo album...tied with MAKING LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON and MAKE BELIEVE IT'S YOUR FIRST TIME.

:)hi Cam..yes, isn't Jewel great! I love "Hands" and "You Were Meant for Me" ..those are kinda old ones now I guess..I heard her newest album and video she really breaks out as jazzy and sexy..she should too. and hi Federico..thanks for the info. ..I wish I was all that young physically..but my brain is ignorant sometimes..I do recall the Ramones some, but I didn't know Phil was a producer and arranger for Karen's solo album. I didn't know about Moroder. Do know Donna S. thanks for the info.
I always loved that song Unforgettable too and if Karen didn't record it, she easily could have. Nat K. Cole surely had that smooth voice too and the clarity.

yes, I love Rita Coolidge too....I think of her hit "Your Love (Has Lifted Me Higher) which is a re-do of another group who recorded it.

I think she had something like 10 top 100 entries, which I believe eight were on A&M. She does have a nice voice and she's very beautiful. I especially like Rita's 1977-78 album "Love Me Again" most particularly the upbeat song "You". Rita and Karen would have been great together.

A duet of of Dusty Springfield and Karen Carpenter singing The Look Of Love... great possibilities. But, too bad Karen never recorded the song.

I remember when Dusty passed away, I have a friend who is a big fan. Regardless a duet with Dusty and Karen would have been great.

Regardless a duet with Dusty and Karen would have been great. Well, the two of them sung Wishing and Hoping, but Karen only a fragment. It's possible to do an imaginary duet with the two versions of the song.

I've heard the medley that has "Wishin' And Hopin'", the medley also has the Beatles' "Good Day Sunshine", Karen has the perfect voice for the song, too bad there's not a full version of that one.
Anyway the medley is from the Carpenters' 1971 summer series "Make Your Own Kind Of Music".

Cam She was a member of A&M's artists and recorded Superstar before the Carpenters version. Strangely, Richard heard this song for the first time performed by Bette Midler on TV and was hooked for it (9(see booklet of Singles 69-73).

:)I always loved that song Unforgettable too and if Karen didn't record it, she easily could have. Nat K. Cole surely had that smooth voice too and the clarity. Richard has written that Nat was a strong influence in theirs carreer. The easily and calm Karen's singing way was taken from great singers like Nat King Cole, Perry Como and Frank Sinatra. The Carpenters covered When I Fall In Love like a homenage to Nat King Cole.

:)hi Federico and all...yes, and they surely fit in and went beyond in some ways in fitting in with so many of those great singers. I didn't know that they did When I Fall in Love as a tribute to Nat. They surely did it up in a grand way.

I think Karen and Anne is a great duet idea. I am huge fan of each. Barbra Streisand would be another obvious choice as a female duet parter and Neil Diamond or Barry Manilow a male partner.
my 2 cents...
p.s. Kenny Rogers also dueted with Ronnie Milsap, Anne Murray, and Holly Dunn and probably a few others we are overlooking.

Hey Everyone, I am not sure if Babs and KC would have been a good choice(my opinion) but I kind of feel Babs is a bit showy...I love her music but...feel she and KC wouldn't have been the greatest pairing...on the other hand...Babs thought the world of KC and KC thought that BABS was her match vocally...her contemporary...so....

:)Not sure how well Karen's voice would have fit in with Billy Joel's , but I happened to hear the song by B. Joel "I Like You Just the Way You Are" , and I think Richard and Karen would have done that one really well together. Another song by Joel which is upbeat and has a good rithym (sp?) that the Carps could have done is "River of Dreams"..it's kinda fun and some good harmony. There may be other songs I'm sure by Joel that they could have done too since he is a pianist. just some thots
