If you could pick anybody to duet with Karen who would you chose.
I would like to have heard Karen with Justin Hayward. I think his silky tones would compliment Karen's style very well. I also think Karen with Aretha Franklin would be interesting just because they are such opposites in their vocal approach.

:)have to think some on it..but Josh Groban is a new voice which might be good with her and even though they are kind of from the past too..they still sing good...Donny and Marie Os.
maybe Reba McIntyre?

I think it would be neat if Karen had done a duet with Anne Murray. Imagine the 2 famous altos...Anne as an alto and Karen a contalto. I think that would be an interesting pairing.
Also Karen and possible duet partner Kenny Rogers would have been neat. I am sure he regretted passing her over the female singer he was planning to hire for this group First Edition...he lost a goldmine.

Kenny did lose a goldmine by passing over Karen for the First Edition, but his loss was our gain. Kenny and Karen would have been great together, and he sure did duet with several others. If I remember Kenny duetted with; Dolly Parton Sheena Easton Kim Carnes Dottie West am I forgetting anyone?

:)I didn't realize that Karen had a chance to be with The 1st Ed....and I'm sure they regretted it when they saw how famous she became. Yes, Anne M. and Kenny r. would have been great. His voice is versatile enough and that is known by him singing duets with the ones you mentioned Rick. I don't think you missed any of the women he sang with. Everything he touched turned to gold also. I went to see him in concert in the early 80's. The singer Susan Anton was his opening act and she was ok., but it seemed like forever before he came out to sing.

Hi All, Another one would be...Neil Sedaka...too bad they didn't do a duet together...well they did duets and trios when they were on tour and he was their opening act. I would have loved to have heard Karen singing LAUGHTER IN THE RAIN which would have been tailor made for her...imagine that!! Awesome song!! I know there is a snippet of singing it...."Ooh...I hear laughter in the rain...is that the right key?"
Neil did have a nice high voice that would have blended nicely with hers...

I agree Cam, "Laughter In the Rain" was perfect for Karen's voice. I've heard the snippet also, it only makes me long for a complete version.

How about a great disco duet with Karen and Donna Summer. Two of the very best female voices ever.

Donna Summer and Mama Cass, wow! Two of my very favorites singers! That would have been great! With Donna Summer still is possible if there's in the vaults of Richard some unreleased disco tune from the N.Y. solo session. Richard could do it like he did it with Do You Hear What I Hear:some verses sung by the guest singer and some verses by Karen. In this case, I do prefer another arranger and producer than Richard.

I just like Karen's pic better than Garfield's.......
anyway, hi Federico......how are things? You are from Domin. Republic? Just out of curiosity..is English taught in the regular schools there? Yes, there are many great singers out there today but none like Karen for sure. Celine Dion and Bar. Streisand sound much alike and have done duets together. Such strong voices! Seems like Karen's voice is just a calmer..a voice that soothes the soul or brightens the day..and when she sings it's not like anyone else because it seems like she's a good friend singing to you .... When I think of well, I hear Bar. Streisand..but I think of her as like a Broadway star a flashy gal..with an attitude of I can do anything because I'm who I am..no offense, but in comparison, with Karen she is still a huge star to me and so much of the world too and yet she's not "Broadway" to me. Although, she could easily have done anything on Broadway.
well, Duets.. I had a thought of like when Natalie Cole made a recording singing "When I Fall in Love" (I think) with her dad who'se long been gone. The video shows Nat King Cole in the background on a big screen in black and white singing as he did that song..and at the same time Natalie harmonizes with him..I like that. And Celine has done the same with Frank Sinatra.."All the Way" And some yrs. ago, too, Hank Williams Jr. did the same with the country song "Tears in My Beer" (ha..still hits me as funny..the name of that one) with his dad. Don't know if there is really a word for that other than a duet. Richard C. perhaps could do something like that with Karen and someone else or himself with a brand new song or an unreleased one. just my thots...

Yes, I'm from that country in the Caribbean sea. And, what country are you from? The english is a language taught in all schools here, but with more rigour in the private schools. There are too several private schools in english only.

No, Smoothie My idea is that Richard permits another disco singer, like Donna Summer, duet with Karen with a new arranger and new producer. Richard never liked the disco music....

smoothieThat could be very interesting a duet of Karen with one of today's hot recording artists through the wonders of modern technology, as was done with Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole (both are great singers). I would like to see a duet and video of Karen Carpenter and Norah Jones performing "Desperado". Another thought I think would be good also. Possibly Phil Ramone or even better Giorgio Moroder arranging and producing a disco duet between Karen and Donna, wouldn't that be the hot item in the music stores and dance floors! My choice for song is the unreleased track "Keep The Love Light Burning".

:)hi Rick..hope you doing ok...I think I've heard the Ramones, but the Moroder guy I don't know of. It's great that you do know of many types of artists and the music..I usually keep my radio on a station that plays today's pop rock and then rock from 70's. 80's and today. Occasionally, I may flip to a country station. I think the Carpenters were naturally greatly talented in many ways, and they were destined to hit the big-time no matter who may have "found" them. But, they were Extremely blessed when Herb Alpert got a hold of them and then they themselves also linked up with Paul Williams writing and Burt Bachrack... some things were just meant to be!...

Think you are very young, Smoothie. But I'm so pleased in explain you anything. The Ramones was a act from the eighties, I think, and Phil Ramone is a famous producer and arranger. He was the producer for the Karen's solo album. Moroder was the first producer to Donna Summer in the seventies. Donna Summer was and is the queen of disco music.
