Hi All, I love watching Karen drum away. She blows my mind everytime I see a clip of her drumming flawlessly. I especially love her Drum Solo on the 1976 ABC tv special...and also the drumming on her Music Music Music 1980 ABC tv special for I'VE GOT RHYTHM...she is amazing...just flailing away flawlessly and in time. It makes me smile and gives me goosebumps. Also I will show these clips to guy friends of mine and they are flabbergasted...all they say is..."Man, that girl can drum!" So I think that is cool... I also love the LIVE AT THE BBC...she drums marvelously and sings wonderfully at the same time...what a gift she had!!!

Hi Cam, I also love watching Karen play drums. She was great. I especially enjoy her on "Sweet Sweet Smile" on the Video Biography, with her hair going all over the place. She seems so energetic and vibrant.

Today I was listening to a disc by Buddy Rich. Knowing that Karen studied his style, I listened for similarities. You can really hear what Karen picked up from him.

Interesting thread.
As you know, I haven't been listening to the Carpenters for a long time (in recent times.) I have never heard much of their work. So, I was up at the store listening to one of the Carptenters' CDs and one of the songs had K doing a drum solo. I had no idea she was so good.
I was once a drummer and I'm amazed she could play so well and sing so beautifully, all at the same time.

In the earliest days of The Carpenters, Karen would play drums and sing the songs at the same time throughout the entire show. She would do both to perfection. That's one of many reasons Karen has remained my favorite for thirty years now.

Hi Will, is this the person you met at the Carpenters Performing Arts Center last weekend? Yes, she is. I didn't notice a photo that showed her face clearly on their web site. In person, she resembles Karen in some respects. I believe I mentioned elsewhere that she has actually met (at least) Karen Carpenter after a concert (back stage.) She remembers the experience fondly and found Karen to be very nice. I have her email and will email her to point her to this site.

Yes, Dena mentions on her bio page that she met Karen backstage after a show.
I think it's neat that you met someone this interesting on your visit to the Performing Arts Center.
