Several artists like The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie and Elvis Presley have had more than one tribute album made if their music. The Carpenters have one so far named "If I Were A Carpenter" released in the 90's. If there were to be a second tribute which artists would you choose to contribute?
Since the Carpenters were diverse in their musical choices and tastes I would choose a diverse range of artists. Here's my choices:
Simon and Garfunkel - Only Yesterday Dixie Chicks - Sweet Sweet Smile Carole King - Hurting Each Other Alicia Keys - I Have You Three Doors Down - Rainy Days And Mondays Donna Summer - All You Get From Love Is A Love Song Beyonce - Superstar Cher - Close To You Coldplay - Solitaire Shania Twain - Two Sides Norah Jones - I Need To Be In Love Elton John - We've Only Just Begun

Wilson Phillips-Close To You Dionne Warwick-Rainy Days and Mondays Rita Coolidge-Yesterday Once More Cam Bitty Mclean did a good version of this song several years ago. Anne Murray released this song and had a hit with it in 1979. Why must be this a kidding? Dionne Warwick performed Close To You, so why not use her version? Rita Coolidge performed this song before the Carpenters version.

How about all male vocalists performing Carpenters songs. But once again it should be from a diverse range of artists as the Carpenters were diverse in their musical interests. And the artists should be relevent to today's music scene, in one way or another.
A few to mention: BJ Thomas Chris Martin (Coldplay) Dave Matthews Badly Drawn Boy Alan Jackson Billy Joel Don Henley

I can see Amy Grant doing "Please Mr. Postman", she has a good voice for upbeat pop songs like that.

It was a joke about Anne Murray recording that song and having a Top 10 hit with it....over Karen. I always wish that Karen had released this song as a single. I prefer Karen's version over Anne's any day! I love Anne but I love Karen much much more.

Yes, Ronstadt would be wonderful doing a Carps tune. As for Anne Murray. I really liked her version of "I Just Fall In Love Again" when it was a hit. I bought the single and the album. Though as the years have gone on I just can't really listen to Anne Murray's version anymore. Please don't get me wrong. I do like Murray, but her version compared to The Carpenters is like well, let's say the Carpenters version is a MASTERPIECE (a Picasso or Renoir) while Murray's is more like paint by numbers.

Dang those Carps though..they had to go and spoil us and get us totally addicted to them! That's the thing The Carpenters have really spoiled us. with Richard's crisp clean musical arrangements and Karen's sublime out of this world voice, nobody else really has a chance to even come close to them. Even artists who are as good as Anne Murray pale in comparison. I do like Anne, I own something like 14 of her albums and a dozen of her singles. My favorite album by her is from 1976 called; "Keeping In Touch". She does an excellent rendition of Kenny Rogers' "Sweet Music Man". Other songs by Anne that I like are; "Highly Prized Possession" (1974), ""Sunday Sunrise" (1975), "The Call" (1975), and "Destiny" (1973?).

I don't own any Anne Murray records or bought any of her records, but I remember seeing her by TV and she has an excellent voice, in the same vein of Karen Carpenter. Once you hear her singing the first notes, you identify her, is Anne Murray.

A smooth jazz tribute would be interesting. Diane Schuur, Diana Krall, Norah Jones, Sade and others.

:)I also wanted to mention that since Harry Connick Jr. is such a great jazzy guy on the piano and has such a good smooth voice..he'd be good for the Mr. Guder.

Excellent choices Smoothie. I can almost hear Harry Connick Jr. singing "Mr. Guder" and James Taylor with "A Song For You", "Eve" is great for Sade.
I haven't heard the Thorns yet, but I've seen the name. Are they a jazz group?

:)I don't think they would be listed in jazz. I just came across their name in browsing yahoo music and watched a sample video of theirs through that launch yahoo thing..just out of curiousity, I guess they sound more like some of the modern day rock only smoother. Their words are easy to understand and they have good harmony. It is fun to think of how a certain song would sound by different folks. Sarah MacLachlan would be good on a slower song. Harry Connick Jr. might team up with Kenny G. doing the flute part on Mr. Guder! I love the Eagles, of course, and I don't think they are together any more , but Air Supply is great or was. And one of my all time favorite songs was Take the Long Way Home by Supertramp! wish I had that one..
