First things first...I don't do Facebook or Twitter. I don't have the time.
Now, the rest of the story...
For those of you who have been here since 2004, you know most of the story, and how KAC became a part of it. For the rest of you, you'll have to go tip-toeing through the archives.
Anyway...after eight years of being where I had no right to be, NASA invited me and my family to attend the final launch of Space Shuttle Atlantis last July. A whole lot of things needed to fall into place at the right time to make that happen, and they did.
What was it like? Amazing, simply amazing, and I was blessed to have been able to share it all in real time with Tim (Yesterday Once More) and Jeri.
Today, the orbiters rest in their hangars in Florida, awaiting transport to their new homes. Ironically enough, Endeavour will be going to California, and will be a relatively short distance from the Newville Avenue home location. This is ironic because on December 3rd, 2004, my family and I walked beneath Endeavour as part of a specially guided private tour of Kennedy Space Center.
I once sent a copy of that photo to Richard...perhaps one day he'll reciprocate.
Probably not.
It was worth the tears. Today, my life is normal as it was before Columbia broke apart on her way home on a cold February morning over Texas. I have stopped telling my story...how long does it take before you realize that they're not laughing with you...but my family and close friends know the whole story, and the truth.
And so, as a very memorable year comes to a close, you know the rest of the story...and its happy ending.
