March 2, 2011 Karen would have been 61.

I believe that at the age of 61 Karen would have been one of those rare singers who would still be singing as well as they did in their younger years.

I'd have to agree with you, Rick. Karen had a timeless voice as we know it. I so wish we could have heard more genres from her....and that she could have worked with many of the talented individuals who are the hit makers of today - I think there are many people who would have loved to have worked with Karen. She was one-of-a-kind, and that voice.....ah, that voice will never be replaced. How fortunate are we...those of us that know, have listened, and who understand? We are blessed! Happy Birthday, Karen!

always found it kinda strange to celebrate a birthday of a dead person but it is a good opportunity to celebrate Karen. I dont know if Karen would sound as good as in her younger days but after hearing Barbara Streisand on a recent awards show and her voice still being great I am sure Karen would still have a fabulous voice at 61 if she would have made it to that age. Tip of the hat to one of the greatest voices of all time.

This world will never know if Karen would have kept her rich singing voice. Still, her birthday anniversary is a good time to think of Karen and her music shared with us.

Right you are, WJ7 - sadly, the world will never know. Mine is merely speculation. What we do know is this: we have a treasure for our lives in having the recordings of the voice Karen shared with us at the time she was with us. It's hard to believe it's been so many years since her early death, as her legacy remains in the hearts and minds of many.

Wow, she would have been 61....bit amazing and difficult to comprehend, for me.

As with Tim, my comment of course was only speculation. But speculation with a bit of education. In her life Karen Carpenter did everything she could to preserve her voice (much like Barbra Streisand does). It seems that someone who was so meticulous about her voice would have retained it even into her 60's.

True, WJ7, the world will never know what Karen would have sounded like today. But that is the fun of forums like this we can speculate, discuss and debate interesting topics and ideas as such.

Tim, I'm with you in that it is hard to comprehend Karen being 61. In our hearts and minds Karen remains a young and vivacious woman.
