I just finished listening to "Horizon" all the way through for the first time in months, and while all the songs on the LP are great,I always find myself listening to two songs more than once after finishing the album. The first would be "Only Yesterday",the other is Karen's incredible version of "Desperado".As a big Eagles fan,I won 't go as far to say KC's version is superior to the original, but it comes pretty d**n close.Which brings me to the reason for this thread, what other songs by the Eagles do you think Karen and Rich would have done a great job on? I've always thought "Wasted Time" from" Hotel California" would have been great for the both of them. It's a great power ballad in the tradition of "Goodbye to Love".The lyrics would have been a good use of Karen's impecable phrassing and her lower register similar to "GTL",and the prominent piano in the original would have been a great showcase for Rich's abilities, and the guitar parts would have been great for Tony Peluso.I also wouldn't have minded to see their take on "Peacefull easy feeling" "Try and Love again" or even "Take it to the Limit". What say the rest of you? Any fellow Eagles and Carpenter's fans wanna take a stab at this? The floor is open! GO!!!!

It might seem an obvious pick, but what about "Best of My Love"?...or I think several from "The Long Run" album would have suited them. First their incredible harmonies on a cover of "In The City", or Karen's authoritative delivery on "King Of Hollywood" or "Sad Cafe" and lastly, as Karen delivered some lead parts in Olivia Newton-John's "Hollywood Nights" special...they could have covered the whole "Heartache Tonight"...

Quite a coincidence,Just today at a flea market,I found a good copy of the Eagles "on the border" LP,from which "Best of my love" originated.Your right, that is an obvious pick, yet a darned good one.In fact,I'm kind of suprised that KC and RC didn't record it! I think a cover would have been right at home on "Passage".As for the rest, all would have been great.(King of Hollywood...one could only imagine! wow.) "Heartache Tonight" would have been a great choice for Karen's Solo album, although the timing would have been close,as both "The Long Run" and "Karen Carpenter" were being recorded about the same time as I recall.Anyhow, great choices. Thanks for the reply, man! Anybody else have thoughts? (I would love to hear Rick Henry's take...hint...)

I agree that Karen's voice is a natural with Eagles songs. "Desperado" in my opinion is one of Karen's finest performances in her entire career. Deep, dark, soulful and rich.
Yes, "Best Of My Love" would be a natural.
"New Kid In Town" would have been a great track to record for "Passage" with a great Peter Knight orchestration.
I agree that "Heartache Tonight" would have been excellent on Karen' s solo album. I could just imagine a multi-layered vocal arrangement constructed as only Rod Temperton could do and a great musical arrangement by Russell Javors.
A few others I think would be great are "Take It Easy", "Peaceful Easy Feeling", "One Of These Nights" and "Lyin' Eyes".
I would have loved to hear an electronic version of "Take It To The Limit" done by Karen with Giorgio Moroder producing and arranging.

As we all know Karen could sing pretty much anything I especially like the country flavored Carpenter songs like Caught between goodbye and I Love You, Sweet Sweet Smile Those Good Old Dreams and Top Of The World single redu as well as Two Sides Karen could handle country flavored songs so well so the early Eagles are a natural match. Not so sure about th later Eagles efforts which were harder musically speaking but I would have loved to hear Karen sing The Last Resort or The Sad Cafe songs they are chill factor songs as they are so I could imagine what Karen could do with these gems that would be awsome to hear! my thoughts...

E... I hear your thoughts on this and agree that Karen Carpenter certainly had a way with a country influenced song such as early Eagles. But, I also feel that several of the slightly "harder edged" songs Eagles did in their later period would have fit Karen just fine. Karen proved to us on several occasions that she was more than able with a song that had an edge to it... good examples are "All I Can Do", "Another Song", "Road Ode", "B'wana She No Home", "Don't Try To Win Me Back Again" and several tracks from her solo album. I feel KC (as I stated in my earlier post in this topic) would have done excellent renditions of "New Kid In town" (this one is a natural for her), "Heartache Tonight". "The Long Run" could also suit Karen's voice just fine. Of course "I Can't Tell You Why" would be a natural. As for "chill factor", I love that "chill factor" in Carpenters music... but I've also come to the conclusion (in the past year) that it doesn't need to have that "chill factor" to be great. A song that simply has a great bass line, rhythm, beat and upbeat enjoyable attitude is equally fantastic and Karen Carpenter was a master at adding her certain sort of verve to a good upbeat edgy tune.

Im new here & I really like some of the graphics. It would be cool just to talk extra about "Calling Occupants" so that I can use the alien space craft. Well, I think that Karen should have sang "Rocky Mtn Way" instead just because I like that song better & thats one of the Joe Walsh songs she could have sang which came out before Horizon. Wouldnt it have been neat if she could have sang "Lifes been good to me so far" or "The Confessor"?
Then it would have been neat if the Carpenters covered some of Supertramp's "Breakfast in America" songs for their "Made in America" LP. Covering "Take the Long Way Home" or "The Logical Song" would almost surely have brought them more sales cause I think her voice fit into any song. In fact, I got a machine that can take the voice of any artist & use it to do songs by other artists. So I have heard Karen sing "Take the Long Way Home" & its much better just cause Karen sings it.
Then I tried Karen singing some Floyd songs. I just love her singing on "The Wall", "Welcome to the Machine" & "Time". She does a much better job than Roger Waters for those versions too.
