I happened to think of G. O'Sullivan and watched him on youtube because I wanted to hear his ALONE NATURALLY (it won't cheer you up, but his GET DOWN will) I listened to a few other of his songs, and overall, what I heard turns out to be cheerful quirky songs. I also found out that at times he sounds like Elton John. I read also that at some point in time he was the opening act for the Carpenters! I love his voice.

So I asked my Mum about him. She just said: "Of course you know him! He sings "Matrimony"!" "Matrimony" is one of my mother's favourites. I also like that song! Thanks for bringing back memories, Smoothie!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The only songs that I recalled was Alone Nat. and Get Down. Seeing him on youtube and reading a little more on the i-net about him, was a learning experience. ******* I love the song Matrimony too! ++++++++++ CG.....It's very KoooL when I hear someone say they asked their folks about a certain singer or song and their parents recall such details. It is also interesting to me that you and your mom recalls "Matrimony", and I didn't know it until now. Perhaps "Matrimony" was more popular in your part of the world at that time than here in the States. +++++++++ Anyway, I'm glad we hit a connection here!

I'm just happy about the inspiration I get here. So thank you again, Smoothie. Could be that "Matrimony" was more popular in Germany/Europe than in the States. I read on the Internet that it was played a lot on German Radio in 1971/72. At that time my mother was 14/15 years.. His biggest hit over here was "Get Down". It was No. 1 of the German charts for 10 weeks!!! Gilbert O'Sullivan is touring across Europe right know. On May the 29th he is playing in Amsterdam (only 150 miles away from my hometown). But I think it will be too stressful for us to get there on a workingday..

I think, if the concert would be on a weekend, I would go there, because I saw some of his live clips on YouTube and they were great. And I love live concerts in general..
Like you've never been to Europe, I've never been to the U.S. so far. But I definitely want to go there!!! Yeah, Amsterdam is a nice city! But my favourite European cities are Vienna and Rome. What I like most about Europe is, that you have so many big cities (London, Paris, Rome, Milan, Barcelona, Madrid, Berlin, Munich, Prague, Warsaw, Istanbul, Vienna, Amsterdam, Brussels etc. etc.) and such a variety of cultures on a more or less small space.
I hope your nephew enjoyed his trip! You said some of your nephews are musicians. May I ask, if he was touring Europe with his band or just privately?
I keep my fingers crossed for you, that Gilbert O'Sullivan will come to the States. So maybe you get the chance to see him live!
