hey everybody....I just had the thought of what might be a good thread of thoughts...we'll see. WHAT CARPS. ALBUM OF ALL THEIR ALBUMS DO YOU FIND LISTENING TO THE MOST? With me, one of my favorite albums is As Time Goes By mainly because it has those tremendous duets with Ella Fitzgerald and P. Como...songs not found on most of their other albums. I must admit that once again, I do not own Karen's solo album even though I have heard of most of the songs through you tube, and love them. Her solo effort unless like on e-bay, has really jumped up in price especially lately I suppose because it's hard to find or what. I may find one used through an independent seller but afraid not too soon. Of course, with me it also depends on the type of mood I'm in, if I've been listening to As T. Goes By for a while, then I may like to jump over to Now and Then cd. In any case, maybe some of you'd like to add your comments.

Wow, Smoothie, that's the one I listen to the most. I absolutely love Karen and Ella's duets together, moreso than the Perry Como collaborations.
I have a bunch of cd's in my car that I've burned to listen to and I seem to grab that one quite often.
If I had to make another choice, I'd probably say "A Song For You".

thanks for the input Beaner....it's just a Classy album (but then again, all of them are). For me though I think I prefer the Como medley a bit more than the one with Ella, but I sure like all those songs. I had not heard any of the medleys of any recorded by K. and R., until I bought that A. Time G. B.~~~~~~~~~~ well, I first heard the Bacharack/David medley on the tan "Carpenters" album, but of course the rest as mentioned are extra sweet. That's really Cooool that we agree on that! And yes, A Song F.You is sensational too. I only have that one on cassette, so it's not quite as handy to listen to as the cd s.

"Horizon" - "Desperado", "Only Yesterday", "Please Mr. Postman", "Happy", "Solitaire" "Passage" - "Sweet Sweet Smile", "Two Sides", "B'wana she No Home" "Karen Carpenter" (solo)(I listen to this album most of anything in my collection of Carpenters music) - "Make Believe It's Your First Time", "Remember When Lovin' Took All Night", "If I Had You", "Guess I Just Lost My Head" and added bonus... Karen Carpenter's unreleased solo songs are also amongst my most listened to right now... with my favorites being... "Keep My Lovelight Burning", "Midnight" and "Don't Try To Win Me Back Again". Kathy you can find Karen's solo album at amazon.com for only $8.00 to $9.00 and it is well worth the price. Click Here: Karen Carpenter (Solo)

Your choices are also very close to mine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks Rick also for the album info....I know I keep repeating myself as far as saying I'm short of cash to make any purchases right now. but it is true, but the more I hear Karen's solo the more I know that I will have to have it. Her solo album shows what a "spunky" lady she was and of course sexy, and her voice reaches new heights which just adds to the whole attraction of the album for me.

I cycle through all the albums.
When I cycle chronologically, one of the neatest things that comes from this type of listening is hearing Karen's voice change from her youthful, full, 'rough' voice (it was never really 'rough' ... maybe more like a diamond in the rough) to her more mature voice. Karen seemed to always be refining her vocals.
The other thing I notice is her style and approach to how she tackled the individual songs. Karen might have had to be convinced (by Richard) to sing, but as she was squeezed more and more to 'front' the band she became more confident. That confidence comes out in her vocals and is most notable in her 'freestyle' singing. (freestyle being melodies and counter harmonies that Karen just floated out above the band ... like when Tony plays his big guitar part in "Goodbye To Love")
Some of my favorites:
the 'live' Bacharach medley from the "Anthology" discs
the duets (trios) with Perry Como from "As Time Goes By"
non hit songs like "And When He Smiles" and "Leave Yesterday Behind"

A very interesting topic, smoothie! Usually I do not listen to one single album. From time to time I create personal play lists. I have them on my laptop, some of them on my mp3-Player and I burn some of them on CD so I can listen to them in my car. I have one personal "Best of Carpenters" play-list, that I listen to the most. It includes almost the whole OFFERING (TICKET TO RIDE), CARPENTERS and PASSAGE albums. But also some "bonus tracks" like Karen's solo stuff or the Karen-Ella Medley.

Indeed this is a very interesting topic and good discussion. To answer which album I listen to most often (which may be a different question than "which album do you like best") I would say I turn to "As Time Goes By" (which is receiving a lot of mention here) and "Voice Of The Heart" most often. I tend to savor "Horizon" for less frequent and special occasions.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Wisej. ...wonderful idea of listening to them chronologically.... I can sure see the advantage of doing that. You are so very right about the changes in Karen's voice and style from the earlier albums to the older or more current voice. I always have the thoughts of how very much her voice and she herself matured and how confident she became. CG, isn't current technology wonderful!? To be able to fix your own cd s and you get just the songs you want that way really amazes me. I have 3 nephews I don't often see, but they know all about how to do all that stuff. In fact 2 of them do music for a living. They're into Christian rock music and play for a church. they are all so very busy with little kids of their own and work they have little time of their own. But, one day I'll be living closer to them and maybe they can fix some stuff up for me. In any case, good input. Tim, your choices also fit in with mine. I love the Love Songs group and the others you mentioned. Some years ago, I found Love songs on sale and got it. The first time I heard "Make Believe It's Your First Time" and "You're the One" was when I first listened to Love Songs. Both of them, especially "Make Believe...." really struck my heart as only Karen can do to a person. Such warmth and expression and warm memories rushed through me. Wow.....ah..

Horizon is indeed a special album. I have the LP. I'm glad I have the LP version also because of all the great photography work on top of all those out of this world sensational songs! From Desperado, Happy, Love Me For What I Am, Aurora, Eventide, and all the rest, each song is unique.

I generally listen to the mixes I've put together myself the most, but as a whole the answer would definitely be "Horizon" - "Passage" and "Karen Carpenter" follow. And I love the Ella medley and the Karen parts of the Como Medley. I'll have to see if I can edit her parts smoothly into a solo medley, lol.

My most listened to Carpenters record should come as no surprise they are Horizon Only Yesterday Solitaire Caught Between Goodbye And I Love You, Happy Offering Someday. Whats the Use. Turn Away Eve Karen Carpenter Making Love In The Afternoon. Still In Love With You, If We Try. Lovelines Also alot of early stuff from from the top more offerings etc just love the early jazz influenced musically raw period its not overly produced and more "real" to me.

My three are still the same from May 21, 2008... "Horizon" - "Solitaire" (one of my all-time favorites), "Happy" (love that ARP synthesizer), "Only Yesterday", "Please Mr. Postman", "Desperado" are the ones I go for most. Karen (solo) - "Guess I Just Lost My Head", "Make Believe It's Your First Time", "Remember When Lovin' Took all Night", "If I Had You", "If We Try". "Passage" - "b'wana She No Home", "Two Sides", "Sweet Sweet Smile", "All You Get From Love Is A Love Song". cinscorp... I just wanted to comment on what you said about the Carpenters/Como Medley... I also like only the Karen parts of that medley. I actually found that particular medley to be very uneven and not too well recorded... plus I am really not a fan of Perry Como... but I do love Karen's parts in that medley and would love to find a way to seamlessly edit her parts into a solo medley... I may give it a try... I have some good music editing tools.
