To be quite honest, the first thing I see is absolutely nothing!!! By that I mean, when I hear Karen's voice, I see, think or hear nothing else but Karen. At work, if I hear a song come on the radio from my friend's office, I stop everything and run in for a few seconds for, more or less, a moment of silence if you will.
However, if you are looking for a more practical answer, what I see if the past. When I hear Karen's voice, I think of seeing her in concert, the tv shows. I just see her so alive!

It depends on different songs. When I am listening 'Boat to sail', I see a beach. When I am listening to songs such as Only Yesterday that have a video, the scenes of the videos are in my brain.

Wow, that's a great question and a very personal one, I think.. I can't really give such a "poetic" answer like Rick - for me it depends.. Depends on the song, like Ming said, but also on the situation or mood I'm in. Sometimes I see Karen herself (not only performing), sometimes I reflect on things or situations in my real life but most often Karen's voice makes me give my fancy full scope.. What I see then is very varied (sometimes it includes Karen, sometimes not) but also very private..

it depends on the song for me but I often see sunshine and light images when it comes to Carpenters music it always reminds me a summer when I hear their music as strange as this may sound.

I have to agree with part of Beaner's answer, here. I typically don't picture anything, but should something come to mind, it is, usually, a still frame of Karen from the past. Karen's voice evokes plenty of emotion for me - every single listen, but it does not necessarily evoke a visual. Should I think of something, or visualize something, however - it would be some still shot that I have always enjoyed of her. Except, oddly, for one song - Sailin' On The Tide. For that one, I actually see the "over there" she sings about. It's quite easy to visualize that one. Some quite interesting answers so far.

I truly agree with you Beth as far as how their music is such a Pacifier a real soothing calming experience to hear them. so many of their songs are full of such clear imagery such as Boat to Sail, Crescent Noon, W. Only Just begun.... No matter what the song or how I may be feeling at the time, that clear smooth voice "fills up my senses" (compliments of J. Denver song). Also, it's like hearing a close friend singing just for me. (((((((((())))))))))))))))))(((((((((((((((((()))))))))))))))))))))))))))))((( ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ok......I may be sounding a bit too corny....so be it...

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thanks Tim....such a gift is Karen's voice just as she as a person was. +++++++ I also had the thought today of the song from the 1970 movie "Love Story" with Ryan O'Neal and Ali McGraw. The lyrics very well fit when I think of that voice...."she fills my heart with very special things, with ANGEL SONGS and wild imaginings....." That movie was ok in my book, but the song much better.
