Song: Glide Group: Pleasure
There isn't much info out there on this 1970s-1980s jazz-funk group, so I can't make any specific connection to the Carpenters. Perhaps some member(s) of this group contributed to Karen's solo CD in some way...

Pleasure drummer Bruce Carter later toured with Kenny G, but I can't find a C's connection.

Yes, Dreams you are correct the answer is "Glide" by Pleasure and there is a connection.
I'll come back tomorrow with the connection if nobody's figured it out by then.

So sorry for not coming back with the answer... this one slipped right by me.
The Carpenters connections to the 1979 R&B hit "Slide" by Pleasure is in the back-up vocals which are performed by Maxine Waters Willard and Julia Waters Tillman.
Both Maxine and Julia did backup vocals on the 1977 hit "All You Get From Love Is A Love Song" and in 1981 Maxine joined Carpenters for background vocals on "Strength Of A Woman".
Maxine has been very prolific singing background vocals for Patti laBelle, Diana Ross, Herbie Hancock, Lionel Richie, Neil diamond, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Laura Branigna, Glenn Frey, Minnie Riperton, Jermaine Jackson, Whitney Houston, Stanley Clarke, Deniece Williams, Michael Jackson, Teena Marie, Michael McDonald, Janet Jackson, Phyllis Hyman, Weird "Al" Yankovic, The Crusaders, Marlena Shaw, Kim Carnes, Paul Jabara, B.B. King, Yvonne Elliman, Johnny Rivers, Lamont Dozier, Carly Simon, Dave Mason, Santana, Engelburt Humperdinck, George Duke, Freddie Hubbard, The Tubes, Randy Crawford, Gino Vannelli, Bob Seger, Elton John, Robbie Williams, Willie Hutch, Irene Cara, Tom Petty, Albert King, The Gap Band, Alexander O'Neal, Greg Phillinganes.
Maxine's primary vocal work is in the jazz and R&B field her addition to "Strength Of A Woman" gives the vocals a bit of an R&B flavor.
Julia has also worked with just as many artists (pretty much to same ones as Maxine).
Maxine and Julia are sisters. They also have two brothers Luther Waters and Oren Waters in the 70's the foursome had a group named "Waters" and they released a few albums and received a small following in Japan. Their music was described as Jazz and Philly Soul with Westcoast spices.
