This edition has a difficulty rating of FIVE - which means it's pretty difficult. But knowing some of our experts here - it may not be all that tough.
Clues:
Artist: This brother was a mother
Album: Hypochondriac

Artist : Frank Zappa (Mother's of Invention) Album: Imaginary Diseases Connection: I know this is one of the bands that Richard listened to and he used this in his own defense when fending off comments about the Carpenters being 'too soft'.

Great job Wisejester7, you are correct on the artist and album - but incorrect on the connection.

Earl/Earle Dumler played woodwinds for Frank Zappa'a album "Imaginary Diseases" and the English horn and oboe for select songs in most of the Carpenters' albums, including "A Song for You," "Now and Then," "Horizon," "A Kind of Hush," "Passage," "Christmas Portrait," "Voice of the Heart," "Lovelines," and Richard Carpenter's "Pianist-Arranger-Composer-Conductor" solo album.

Excellent GoodOldDreams. You are correct. Earl/Earle Dumler played woodwinds on Frank Zappa's "Imaginary Diseases" album. And he performed not only on Richard's "Pianist-Arranger-Composer-Conductor" album but also on Carpenters' "A Song For You", "Now And Then", "Horizon", "A Kind Of Hush", "Passage", "Made In America" and "Voice Of The Heart". He was a longtime associate with the Carpenters studio band.
