Beautiful.
This haunting bookend piece closes what ends up being the Carpenters' finest album in their entire recorded work.
"Eventide" is the sunset drifting off into the horizon.
The lyric is very visual and makes you feel like you are experiencing that beautiful sunset. It's a beautiful and love-filled lyric.
Lying under barren skies The light escaping From my eyes Below the moon Walking down the avenue I'm followed by The afterglow The velvet rose of evening grows
Weary to be home again Among the faces Of my friends The day is done Candles burning by the sea Are waiting for me Patiently I wish the same For you

'Eventide', the album's final track: a fitting resolve to an exquisite masterpiece. Karen's voice: a velvet rose indeed.
3 Stars. L

Companion piece to Aurora. You get the sense that Karen loved her work, but really longed to be with family and friends at the end of each day.
