Hi All, I remember that there were 2 different PEOPLE magazine covers out of Karen's death on the date February 21, 1983...One which said, Death comes at 32 to the Beloved singer after a valiant battle against anorexia nervosa. The other one I can't remember...but it was one with the same pic, same color, but different words...Karen Carpenter dead at 32 after a battle with anorexia nervosa(or something like this)... Has anyone seen the second one?

I have both People magazines. The other cover you are referring to is dated 11/21/83. It has a picture of Karen, in the same yellow dress as the other people, and a picture of Richard. The headline says: The Karen Carpenter Story--Richard, she said, I realize I'm sick and I need help. The inside story is--A brother remembers. Hope this answers your question.

Hi all ! I also have a magazine cover and article from People magazine from 1975 showing Karen and Richard. They talk about the pressures of the music buisiness and Karen's bout with Anorexia , although at the time it was explained away as 'exhaustion' from touring too much. Lots of pix including Karen standing inside of her unfinished condo in Century city. I swiped the magazine from my Psychology class teacher in high school during my 3rd period class. Glad now that I did that ! I really miss Karen so much.....

Cam83-
I only saw the 1 magazine cover on the news stands, but recall seeing another one with the same cover with the different headline in a People magazine anniversary issue. I don't recall which anniversary, (25?) but at the back of the issue, they listed the top 2 selling issues of each year. Karen's February issue was the top seller of 1983. The cover they displayed had the different headline. I assumed this was either issued in a different country or different area of the country, or it may have been changed by the time it hit news stands.
I don't know if this is what you were thinking, but there's a little more info on the subject.

Hi Moe, Yes! i think you got it! It probably was an error and they fixed it in the end. When a celebrity dies sometimes they have several versions to work with until they decide which one goes on the newsstands...
Cam PS. Welcome Moe!!
