"Sky High" by Jigsaw - After several early single releases with minor success, Jigsaw signed a new deal, in 1975, with independent UK label “Splash”, which was founded by Chas Peate (who would be the group's record producer). Their first single for their new label, entitled “Sky High”, was recorded for the film "The Man From Hong Kong", a 1975 martial-arts action movie starring George Lazenby. The record company didn’t think the disco-infused song would be a hit, and therefore pressed only a couple of hundred promotional copies to satisfy contractual obligations. However, radio stations put it on playlists, causing the label to issue it commercially, and it made the UK Top 10. Chelsea Records released it in the USA (where Splash had no pressing plants) and it was also a hit there, going to #3. It charted all over the world and was #1 in Japan.
"Magic" by Pilot - working under the sure and steady hand of Alan Parsons at Abbey Road studios, Pilot delivered the fantastically crisp, clean, melodic, and harmonic power pop tune "Magic". The song was strongly influenced by British band Badfinger (famous for the hits "Come And Get It" and "No Matter What"). The song reached U.S. #5 in mid 1975 and was certified Gold for selling over one million copies. "magic" was recently featured in the movie "Herbie Fully Loaded".
For those who may not remember "Magic" by Pilot here are some of the opening lyrics:
Ho, ho, ho It's magic you know Never believe, it's not so

It's funny that while I remember hearing theses songs on the radio, I didn't specifically know the names of the bands or the titles until now. Thanks to YouTube for making it possible to check out these groups and see and hear them: Sky High - Magic youtube.com/watch?v=_NBEgRpVaKcMagic - Pilot youtube.com/watch?v=41UIiEH53QYWhile both are good songs, I think Jigsaw's "Sky High" has more intriguing vocals and more exciting orchestration. It is also interesting to note that the lead vocals were done by the drummer!

I have both songs on very good condition 45 RPM vinyl and gave the edge to Pilot's "Magic". It was on the airwaves when I was started playing music in a band ...now long ago and far away.

I came back to this one about three times before deciding as I like both songs almost even. Ultimately I went with "Magic". There are parts in the verses of "Magic" that really capture my attention and keep hold of me. I also like the lead vocalists voice quite a bit.
