Hi All -
How great the support we give eachother here on COL!? Man, Carpenters fans are nice people!
Tim - so relieved to hear that you are feeling better. I know that having tests done is always worrying, but you made it out the other side dude! Good for you! Wisejester - wishing you & all your family the best too. "Chin up" as we say in the UK - do you guys say that?!
I know that it's been mentioned several times now, how the world feels somehow different this millenium. And it's true - in many ways our world is a darker, more scary place....but the truth is, it's how we deal with it that counts. I read a brilliant quote recently which goes something like this:
"The test of a good pilot is not how he flies in cloudless skies, but how he weathers the storm."
Best to you all!
Leo

Hi Tim, I am glad to hear that your test results came back fine and that you have found a good support system. I am reminded of a college classmate who once said "A good friend is someone who is there for you not only when times are good, but also when times are bad." I hope you feel better soon!

Tim, we hope you continue to feel better and I pray for your strength in the inner spirit as well. Thanks for your work here, in getting the card for Becky and alerting us all to it. And thinking of your dad and family also, wisejester. It's tough to be away from family during times of illness. Glad though for your time with other family, back in Madison.

Very glad to hear of your dad being able to go home from the hospital; hoping he feels better and improves. While there is great respect for the skills and (hopefully in most cases) care and concern of hospital personnel, a person's recovery can be quicker at home, once the peson is able.

Always so much going on in our lives, isn't there? So nice to hear from everyone, and I appreciate the sentiments. WiseJester, WONDERFUL NEWS about your dad being able to go HOME. Did you see the movie The Wiz? The song, HOME begins with these lyrics....."When I think of Home, I think of a place where there's love overflowing....I wish I was home - I wish I was back there with the things I've been knowing...." It's a beautiful song, and I thought of your father as I thought of these lyrics. I'm sure he was wishing he was "home" because that's where he knows love IS overflowing for him. He's been in our thoughts and prayers, as you have. Glad to know you're "weathering the storm." Knew you could do it. Thanks for that quote, Leo. I think there are several of us who needed to chin-up, and look at the storm so we could weather it. So far....so good. Go back and read the incredible warm threads on page 7 and 8....how does it make you feel? It confirms for me that the people on this forum are first-class, and sincere through and through. There's compassion spilled into these pages, there's concern, love, trust, and it shows in a big, big way. Thanks to EVERYONE who checked in, and wished me well. I am beginning to come out of whatever this has been in terms of my health. So many people thinking of and praying for me...how could I not? Still fatigued, but that's about the extent of the problems now....and that's a GREAT thing. So thank you for your words, well wishes, and sincerity! It didn't go unnoticed. I have had two nice, lengthy e-mails from Becky Boxberger this week. She is doing well. Suffice it to say, the story is hers to tell about why she is no longer with Richard as his personal assistant, and perhaps, some day she will share it with us. For now, know that she is very happy, she is visiting a friend and having a great time, and will relocate up North, close to Sacramento. She is pleased about this move. She wanted me to give you all her best. I've spoken with Palm too, and she's been very busy of late - working with a wonderful new recording artist - I got some mp3s of his work just this evening, and his voice is awesome. Palm is doing the piano, arrangements, etc. She, too, has been feeling pretty punk of late, and could use our thoughts and prayers. I told her, of course, that she had them already - but wanted to mention it to you all so you could keep her in mind, too. She seems to be going like a house afire with first one mission, then another! Just hope she gets to feeling better and quickly. And I talked to Leo the other day - he is working on finalizing his next single, "Get Behind Me." More studio work to do on it, but he is excited about it. I have not heard it - have no clue how it goes, but I have read the lyrics, as Ant has them posted on his MySpace page. He's quite a good lyricist, Antony. Together, they make a great team. I've also heard recently from Dave who is keeping very busy and doing a bit of traveling....and I thank Enigma for the nice email I got from him, today. KC Musician is doing well, and his business is booming, so that's why we haven't seen him on the forum lately - but he says hi, and he'll be around...he still has two children in junior high, and you all who have either been parents or aunts/uncles know what sort of schedules the kids keep at that age any more - soccer/piano/this/that.....KC is ALWAYS attending a meeting, a game, or a music thing! I told him recently (as we are the same age) that I didn't know how he had the stamina for it. He seems to love it. Better him, than me. Once again, thanks to all for your kind words, and WJ7, I'm soooooooooo happy to hear about your dad....maybe you'll hear from him, soon. I wish you all the best from here in my corner, Tim

I have "The Wiz" soundtrack in my collection but have never listened to it - with the exception the song "Ease On Down The Road" performed by Michael Jackson and Diana Ross. I'll have to give this particular song a listen - I love the lyrics.
Speaking of home - these days I am a home body. I really enjoy spending time with my family. Tonight we're having filet mignon, pnito beans and salad for dinner. My dad cooked the pinto beans for three hours - they're in a great sauce which is slightly spicy. Tonight's dinner was here at my place - next weekend dinner will be at mom and dad's house. Now they're watching the game on TV and as usual I'm playing on my computer.
Home is where the heart roams.

Sounds like a great meal and a good time, Rick. We always celebrate or niece's birthday with a family dinner at an Italian restaurant (everyone in the family is 0 % Italian- so what?). This year the feast is on Nov. 5- I'm counting the days. She just gave birth to her first child in April, so it will special this year. Speaking of your family watching the game- asuming you mean the baseball series game- remember, Chris CARPENTER is pitching Tuesday night- even our Tigers fans on Kandr (if there are any- I don't know as sports is a hot topic here) should take some interest in his performance!

I'll have to give this particular song a listen - I love the lyrics... A couple of really noteworthy additional pieces— "Home" is the signature song for Stephanie Mills, who was just a teenager when she starred in the original Broadway production of "The Wiz." Her superior 1989 version of this song really amazes me in terms of her expressiveness, vocal range and the catchy musical accompaniment. Speaking of startling vocal range for a related song, I stumbled across a video clip of Shayne Ward, winner of "The X-Factor" (British precursor to "American Idol") doing a moving and chilling rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from "The Wizard of Oz," with commentaries from the judges at: youtube.com/watch?v=ELvMJ39YThkWOW!

I just LOVE my corner........Thanks for checking in, everyone...... Rick - what a wonderful thing getting together with family is. How fortunate you are (as am I) that your family is close enough to get together with. It sounds like you have a grand time, and it sounds like there is a lot of laughter and memories being made. And...sounds to me like you've some good plans of having meals at differing homes, with differing cooks. Good for you. And O.E., same with you - the celebration you speak of with your niece, (and awwwww, shucks, you chose an ITALIAN restaurant...how about THAT?) Good choice - anyway....the celebration sounds wonderful, and something quite special to look forward to. Isn't it great to have that one thing at least that you know is going to be wonderful, no matter how it really goes...because it's a special time and you just have that special feeling. My family, of course, IS Italian - and when my father was still with us, we got together very often. He loved cooking for his family, and that, he would do - many Sunday nights, we'd be going for pasta at mom and dads. Sauce that cooked on low all day long sometimes with a huge roast inside - sometimes pork, but mostly, MEATBALLS as only my father, and his mother before him could make. Muuuwwwwwaahhhh! (I was blowing a kiss there, in case you were wondering). Now, since WE all have familes who have families, it's (whew) a bit tougher to get together. I'm the only brother (of 4 boys) who has any children living out of town - the rest all settled here in Springfield, can you believe it? So - we'll be going to St. Louis this year for Thanksgiving - and Jon will come down from Chicago to there - not so far to go. But, on Christmas, the four boys (my brothers and I, that is) and our wives will get together and make homemade ravioli....my dad's recipe. We began making it only a few years before dad died, actually - and got it on video tape the year before he left us, and boy, were we glad we did. His recipes aren't the easiest to follow - a dash of this, a touch of that, just the right amount of the other (what is just the right amount, anyway)? Well, it's just the RIGHT amount. What can I say? Anyway, when we DO get together, which we will for Christmas Eve, there will be 27 of us. I can't wait. Such fun, and such GREAT food. Dreams, thanks for the information about Stephanie Mills. I didn't know that, but that's a great piece of info. I didn't hear this song from any soundtrack, actually - one of the vocalists I worked with (Beth, who I sang with in San Francisco and Oakland) brought me the lead sheet and asked me to learn it so she could do it. I fell in love with it immediately, and have sung it ever since. In fact, I did it one Sunday at church not so long ago. Truly a beautiful, beautiful song. And Shayne Ward - WOW is right. What a voice - lots and lots of power there, but he uses it in "control" so well. He is really great. Thanks for providing us that link. Ms WJ7....to you, I tip my hat and say "thanks." Yes, fear is something that can ruin your health, in fact....but fortunately there were enough people around me saying positive things, and I've learned how, for the most part, to remain as positive as I can, and THAT little piece of medicine/faith truly helped. Thanks to ALL who visit here....and thanks to ALL who post here. This is a place to share, and to "muse" if you will.....a corner for ALL. And, having said that.... I wish you all the best from here in my corner, Tim

Hi Ming! Yes, I truly enjoy celebrating Christmas with my family. So tell us, is your family close to you? Do you celebrate with them? Does your family get together for holidays generally? Do you have a large or a small family? How many brothers or sisters do you have, if any? How will you spend Thanksgiving and Christmas? Everyone, I wanted to share with you a bit of quite troubling news....Palma is feeling really kind of bad. She has been dealing with quite a round of illness for actually almost 6 weeks now, but had been thinking whatever it was would surely just "go away." Unfortunately, that isn't the case at all. She discovered yesterday that she would need to be having some testing done. Without revealing anything in order to be considerate of her privacy, suffice it to say this isn't good stuff she is dealing with here. I heard from her last night, and she did indicate she would be having an MRI early this morning. Fred sent me an email a bit earlier, and let me know that they are waiting anxiously for the results of the tests Palm underwent today. He promised to keep me informed, in the event Palm wasn't feeling up to getting on the computer.' Just thought you'd like to know we have one miserable (uncomfortable) song-writer friend at the moment. Your thoughts and your prayers would be greatly appreciated by her, certainly. I assurred her we would all be there for her. Well, there you have my latest news. Sorry it wasn't a bit more positive. Hope you are all doing well. I wish you all the best from here in my corner, Tim WJ7 - Please let us know how your father is doing. Hoping he's feeling much, much better by now???

Tim, It seems like a lot of people have had health trouble of major proportions lately. We sure will be thinking of our dear friend Palma. She (and the same is true of so many people here) have lifted us up in hard times and it is a privilege to be of whatever help we can. Ming, we do hope you are enjoying and doing well in your University studies. And congratulaions too, to Dr. Johnny, on the hard work and dedication you have put into your studies despite adversity and illness. Good things are worth the effort! (Oh, by the way Tim, you don't mind if I bring 3 or 4 dozen people by for ravioli at Christmas, do you? Ha!)
