Moved over from the main forum -Merry Christmas Darling thread .... : MCD is such a classic Carpenters song with a stunning Richard melody linked to Frank Pooler's lyrics from 21 years earlier ...!! Would love Richard to release alternative versions of some Carpenters Christmas songs .... MCD -original 1966 demo version ....fascinating to hear whether Karen & Richard performance & arrangement were radically different ..... MCD -LIVE VERSION ....from various 1970's concerts ....plus other live versions of studio songs that provide alternate versions for fans .... These could be form the basis of another Carpenters Christmas album or bonus tracks as fan extras for 2 Christmas studio albums ..... Peter

Hi Rick , Certainly enough Carpenters Christmas tracks / out-takes from various sources to complete a third Christmas album ....with some surprises from Richard's archive ..... Should be plenty of live tracks , rehearsals etc from various concerts that would be great alternatives to classic studio tracks Ideally Richard will complete his long -in -progress Solo Christmas album for 2005 ....Richard offers apologies to fans for taking his own sweet time about this new album ....!! ....as stated on official website recently .... As a follow up and as a great addition to Carpenters recording legacy ....Richard could complete this third album , remaster Portrait & Old Fashioned & release as a special 3 CD box set for fans worldwide ....as with the original two releases ....this would be an annual best seller ....later on all three albums could be made available individually at mid-price ...for that wider Carpenters & music audiences ..... Rick -when you saw Carpenters LIVE IN VEGAS ...can you remember any / many of Christmas songs performed LIVE ?? tHAT MUST HAVE BEEN GREAT LIVE OCCASION .... We could have two more great Christmas albums to look forward to in approx next three years ... Peter

We could have two more great Christmas albums to look forward to in approx next three years ... Peter Hi Peter, I saw the Carpenters in Las Vegas on December 29, 1977. This was after Christmas so they didn't perform any Christmas songs that I remember. Remember is the key word. This was sooo long ago that I don't remember a lot of the concert. I do remember Karen doing her fascinating drum solo, and Richard doing the "Warsaw Concerto". I also remember a motorcycle roaring onstage so they had to have done some kind of oldies medley. I also remember "We've Only Just Begun". What I remember most was Karen speaking to the audience. She had mentioned that the enitre first row was filled with fans from Japan.

Really? Are these studio tracks from the Christmas album sessions? If so, why weren't more of them included on "An Old Fashioned Christmas"? When RC filled up that album with so many instrumental tracks, I assumed it was because the seven songs KC sings were the last of her Christmas vocals.
Of course, you may all be right and there are lots of live performances we've never heard. Then there are some unissued songs from the Christmas specials, but most of them are duets with guest stars, if memory serves.
Still, anything would be nice at this point. I once heard a live version of "Ave Maria" (on RoadOde?) that sounded terrific, and that was from an audience member's cassette recorder. Richard must certainly have a professional recording of that concert.
