This is such a wonderful performance by Karen. Full of fun and energy, which would suggest that an afternoon with Karen Carpenter would be fun filled with games, puzzles, laughter, food, and a fireplace blazing warmth. It sure sounds like she is having so much fun singing this song. A very warm, nice song made more so by Karen.
This song was also the opening song for the 1977 Carpenters At Christmas tv special. Karen is shown singing the opening wearing a lovely fur coat, and looks breathtakingly gorgeous...she looks like a pop diva! Then it shows Karen and Richard on a wide set. She is wearing a lovely satin suit, all white. Very similar to the red satin suit POSTER from the fan club. A very nice visual number, with the Carpenters band, and some extras who appear on camera, as the Carpenters are taping the number. It's very well done. No wonder it did well in the Neilson Ratings.

Karen's voice seems to have an extra little gleam of happiness in it on this song. This is one of my favorite songs to sing along with.

Has anyone else noticed a difference in the first line of "Sleigh Ride" on the 2 disc Christmas release, verses the one on the original "Portrait" record? It seems like Richard may have used an alternate take because Karen's phrasing is just slightly different. This jumped out at me the first time I heard it and I now find it slightly annoying. The song doesn't seem to flow as well as in the original. Is this something real or am I not getting enough sleep?
